The president in idiocracy is a better president than the current president of american idiocracy.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 25 points 6 days ago

President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho is an American treasure. Have the respect to say his name!

Wild that Idiocracy is turning into an aspirational movie

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

It's only because Don't Look Up has supplanted it for a more accurate picture of how we're going to end up.

[–] 667@lemmy.radio 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Idiocracy is a documentary!

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You wish, like the family wealth of the Simpsons, Idiocracy showed a potential future that now seems pretty good.

Welcome to Costco, I love you.

[–] 667@lemmy.radio 3 points 6 days ago

I regret that you you are right. Nothing’s been the same since Harambe.

[–] __Goblin@lemmy.ca 28 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Kid rock wishes. President Camacho actually looks kinda cool. Kid rock looks like a pathetic little piss ant.

[–] Jiggle_Physics@sh.itjust.works 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

camancho, aside from being a moron, actually cared about people, and really wanted things to get better.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

And he listened to his experts.

[–] slappypantsgo@lemm.ee 12 points 6 days ago

Least realistic part of idiocracy: people trying to improve things.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago

Truth and sanity to American History?

Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct; nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record. All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary.

Orwell, 1984

[–] Doctor_Satan@lemm.ee 11 points 6 days ago

Kinda subtle, but I notice they like to use the word "truth" instead of "facts".

[–] dumbass@leminal.space 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

We are in Idiocracy if it was a psychological horror.

There's no fun Starbucks handjobs or Costco law school, just fascists sucking each other off while destroying the world.

[–] Casteyes@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

There may not be a Costco law school... But there is a Trump University!...oh, oh wait, nevermind.

Bad comparison.

One is an idiot.

The other is also a nazi on top of that.

I like the idiot more than the nazi idiot.

[–] SidewaysHighways@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

anyone care to track down that picture of drumpf with the guy who didn't kill himself?

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 6 days ago

i thought it was that one but no

[–] Casteyes@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

If only it would have stayed true to the timeline of the film and happened in 2505 instead of 2025.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 11 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Who is the guy to the left of trump?

[–] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 9 points 6 days ago

Tell me you haven’t watched or really understood Idiocracy without telling me you haven’t watched or really understood Idiocracy.

[–] mondomon@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Oh, now they're going directly after American history. No surprise.

[–] Brodysseus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

The guy on the right has his facial hair cut like he's wearing a covid mask wrong (in chin protection mode)

I did a double take

[–] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 189 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I’m offended. President Camacho wanted the best for his people, and the protagonist wasn’t a buffoon.

[–] ChaoticCookie@sh.itjust.works 12 points 6 days ago

He may have not been a good president, but he tried and that’s better than what we have today!

[–] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 8 points 6 days ago

Honestly it feels almost dangerous to call the people in the bottom photo idiots. They know exactly what they’re fucking doing and the cruelty and power are the entire fucking point. This is why Idiocracy can’t actually happen, if the entire population’s intelligence suffered that much we would all be dead long before we got to the world of the film. These people are evil tyrants who are systematically and ruthlessly destroying the fabric of our government and country, not hapless buffoons with good intentions.

[–] blackluster117@sh.itjust.works 140 points 1 week ago (3 children)

President Camacho went out of his way to get the smartest guy he could and provide whatever resources were necessary to solve the problem. Now that's leadership.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

ahem. You mean President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho

Isn't there a Herbert somewhere in there as well?

[–] RandoMcRanderton@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Trump did the same. He got Elon Musk. /s

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

Least competent black president vs. most authoritarian white president and it isn't even a contest

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 70 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not bad, but there’s no sane, rational, caring person in the second pic. Just two assholes.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 7 points 6 days ago

Don't forget racist.

[–] EvilFonzy@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is the comment I came here to make! The biggest difference between us and Idiocracy is that they listened and let the smart person take control in the movie. There's no hope of that now.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

They were pretty much ready to execute that smart guy because the water didn't immediately grow massive crops. Had the others got distracted just a few minutes longer before broadcasting the growth live it may have been too late.

[–] groolthedemon@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (13 children)

I've been saying for years that Mike Judge is the modern Nostradamus. The dude has called everything from dumb teenagers, to American work culture, to misinformed redneck culture, to Trumpism. Now he's tackling big pharma and government sponsored terrorism and ecoterrorism with Common Side Effects. The dude is just on top of it.
