What next? Will the Fr*nch stop women from sexually assaulting Victor Noir's memorial? Will New York visitors no longer be able to rub the balls on the Charging Bull? The world just ain't what it used to be, I tell ya.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't rub your balls on the Charging Bull.

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago

what if the bull is already at 100%?

"Dublin City Council do not want anyone to touch any work of art whether indoors or outdoors to avoid damage and costly repairs," a spokesperson said.

However, [The council] said that these options (moving the statue/raising the plinth) would be "costly", adding that placing a railing around the artwork "may increase risk".

So it would be be less costly to just leave it? I swear, this subject is not indecent enough to warrant this amount of attention, resources, nor effort. Please work on something else.

What costly repairs would a bronze that's touched more require?

[–] Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Skin oils alone will corrode various metals over years. Also, lots of touching will basically erode it, hence the "polished" look on the statue's entire cleavage

Someone in government just learned why the boobs are shinier than the rest and was immediately outraged

For anyone that doesn't want to click the link

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Although they definitely should.

[–] bane_killgrind@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 week ago

The built-in address bar is amazing. Very period. I can almost taste Jeeves.

.....Gene Wilder?

..........Gene Wilders tits?

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 7 points 1 week ago

Now there's a sentence I wasn't expecting to read today.

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

This is beautiful. There's no internet like old internet.

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh wow. Things you never knew existed…

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I was having a conversation with someone the other day about lost websites, including this one. I only managed to track it down from a comment I made on a forum about a tonne of links I sent to a news site, which included a jokey aside about statue molesting. Blimey that was hard work. Now to find Fat Chicks in Party Hats and Portal of Evil...

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At least zombo.com is still going

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 6 points 1 week ago

Right then, that inspired me to start Relics of the Old Web.

TShirt hell? Now that’s a website I’ve not heard in a long time.

But it's my only line!

[–] riodoro1@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

put something in public space

the public collectively does something with it

no, you weren’t supposed to do that

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Just grope the rest of it, FFS. And the wheelbarrow too. When the whole thing is a uniform color, I don't think anyone will give a shit anymore...

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 17 points 1 week ago

It's a novel solution - it needs more molesting not less.

[–] Lembot_0001@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Why? Because in 472 years of constant touching the statue would be damaged enough to require a capital repairment? Last time I checked Dublin wasn't in the USA or Iran. So we can rule out sanctimony, correct?

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Ireland is heavily Catholic. You cannot rule out sanctimony.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 0 points 6 days ago

By identity perhaps, but the influence of Rome is greatly diminished these days.

Lol, yes you can. Catholic by demographic, nobody practises in reality.

[–] Paradachshund@lemmy.today 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't the UK also very prudish historically?

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 25 points 1 week ago (13 children)

Historically yes, but it’s ok because this statue isn’t in the UK either.

Isn't there some grave that women wanting to be pregnant grind on? Are they going to ban that too?

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Victor Noirs statue/grave as mentioned elsewhere in the comments.

Can everyone please stop touching up statues and grinding their bits on them please.

Literally 2025.

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago (3 children)

The statue wasn't well received when it was unveilled.

Great display of virtue signaling, if I ever seen one. And nothing lasts forever; if it breaks, have another commissioned, you prudish lot of sycophants.

Lol the patina wore off 🤣

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There's a dog statue somewhere that's polished like this too because people pet the dog.

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I think there’s one in Tokyo. A famous dog who kept going back to the train station everyday waiting for his master who had died iirc.

Edit: Hachiko

[–] Lairo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

Greyfriars Bobby in Edinburgh
