"Return the dignity of work to young men who need to be at work instead of playing video games all day."

House Speaker Mike Johnson defended Republican efforts to attach work requirements to Medicaid, suggesting that young American men are wasting their lives "playing video games all day" instead of working.

Johnson's remarks came as House Republicans pushed forward a budget framework that would help finance President Donald Trump's tax cuts, with plans to slash federal spending by trillions. GOP leaders are eyeing $880 billion in reductions to Medicaid, a move critics warn could gut health coverage for millions of low-income Americans.

'They're Draining Resources'

"Building new power plants and taking all the water just to service broligarchs' AI businesses is fine, though."

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Mike Johnson needs to drain my butt while I drain resources. In other words, eat shit, you fucknutter.

Get me a job that pays at least minimum wage. Anything less isn't deserving of anyone's effort.

[–] LastingLine@midwest.social 17 points 1 week ago

What's the point of fighting for freedom if my free time is still dictated by the government?

[–] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What the fuck does that have to with access to medical care you absolute fucking waste of flesh‽

No one is living off of Medicare or Medicaid. No one is able to not work and instead play video games all day because of these programs. All a work requirement does is make it harder for these programs to help the people who need them. Which of course makes it more likely that they will be stu k with deteriorating health issues which will make it harder for them to work.

This is just an attempt to cut benefits for the poor to make room for tax cuts for the rich. It's all about obfuscating the cuts so they can try to dodge accountability.

Fuck you Mike Johnson. You are net drain on humanity. You are actively working to increase suffering and death. Stop pretending to love Jesus because the last time he met someone like you he whipped them and drove them out of the temple.

Absolutely. i would also like to emphasize that this would disproportionately effect people with disabilities.

Also, when I was homesteading, I didn't officially have a job and didn't make much money, but I was working far more than an average full time job and was able to support myself other than the cost for health insurance.

But the whole idea that access to healthcare should be linked to and require employment is insane and sociopathic.

They are Nazis. Nazis believe that anyone who isn't a productive cog in their industrial and military machine doesn't deserve to live. The USA needs to overthrow this Nazi regime before they start the mass exterminations.

[–] letsgo2themall@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

maybe try paying a living wage first.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

He does understand that neet gamers are the republican base right?

[–] WhatSay@slrpnk.net 14 points 1 week ago

He's a waste of air

[–] vividspecter@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago
[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago

I have an idea, mike. How about you stop trying to tell people what to do in their lives and trying doing your fucking job? Parasite.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Oh so we aren't doing massive layoffs suddenly? /s

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Quit enjoying your life with games and get back to making me and my billionaire buddies more money you slacker!

[–] PersnickityPenguin@lemm.ee 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

‘They’re draining resources’

... from their rich overlords.

That's what he means.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I just finished working four 12 hour shifts dealing with morons and shitty people, Mike. I'll play some god damn video games if I want to.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

He hates them because they're fun and he's republican. Sad and pathetic to end up so cross.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 10 points 1 week ago

This fucking administration...

Deportation for everyone: it's ok, we're saving Jewish people from the mean mean thought criminals.

Gut all beneficial programs: it's ok they're all parasites who play video games all day.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If the US feels like it needs more workers they should try restoring the social contract

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Separation of church and state seems to have been a pretty good idea despite Mike's idiocy in that regard as well. Maybe we also need a separation of economy and government too since their continued mismanagement has destabilized bonds, reduced confidence in US markets due to their manipulation, and an ongoing inability to even create a budget.

[–] verdigris@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"separation of government and economy" is precisely what these assholes are angling for. Regulation is very good actually when it's done on behalf of the people.

Fuck you

keeps playing

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago

They targeted gamers.

[–] LuckyPierre@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

As always, what's not said is often more telling that what is.

He values women so little that he doesn't even consider their contribution worthwhile enough to mention. It's fine for them to waste their time playing games all day. (Or he doesn't think women don't play games, which is just as poor)

[–] hyperhopper@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Ironically, straight out of the communist country playbook. Go to Lao even today, there is a midnight curfew because you shouldn't be out late, you should be up early to work!

[–] Mike_The_TV@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I dare him to name a video game.

Well, maybe make life not suck so bad then. Make things affordable again? Let’s start there.

[–] drinkwaterkin@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

This must be a sign from God that I need to pursue the American dream of monetized game streaming.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

They need to get back to sharing their porn playlist with their kids like good decent American folks.
