Adolf Hitler, chancellor and dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945, committed suicide via a gunshot to the head on 30 April 1945 in the Führerbunker in Berlin[a] after it became clear that Germany would lose the Battle of Berlin, which led to the end of World War II in Europe. Eva Braun, his longtime companion and wife of one day, also committed suicide by cyanide poisoning.[b] In accordance with Hitler's prior written and verbal instructions, that afternoon their remains were carried up the stairs and through the bunker's emergency exit to the Reich Chancellery garden, where they were doused in petrol and burned.[1][2] The news of Hitler's death was announced on German radio the next day, 1 May.[3]

One day we'll have a headline like that of our own.

[–] shittydwarf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

A few of those would be nice

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Ukraine needs a day like that. Almost everyone alive need a day like that.

Man, I just wanna have a job and a home for my family. Why do we put up with all these shitty people.

[–] Bloomcole@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Well Russia did shoot the nazi scumbag genocider Bandera, up to that time living freely in west Berlin since nazis got whitewashed and forgiven.
Probably zelenski won't have the balls to kill himself and run with his stolen money to his owners in the west.
But we can hope.

Adolf Hitler died, yes, but what about second Hitler?

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 35 points 4 days ago (2 children)

say what you want about him. but he did kill Hitler, not bad.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 days ago (2 children)

But he also killed the guy who killed Hitler. Kind of a dick move.

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

fair point, but he also killed that bloke

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Sounds like this Hitler fella sure did kill a lot of people.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Yes, but he did end up killing the guy who killed the guy who killed Hitler. So it all balances out.

Fascists continue to use the spectre of anything t the left of them as communism to this day. The USSR did indeed capture Berlin and we can all celebrate that. Fuck fascists. And fuck anyone who softens Hitler's stain on history.

I'm waiting for the "Trump Dead" headline.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Reading the article was kind of scary, even until the end they were still emphasising the propaganda of ~~woke~~ Bolshevism.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

What propaganda? Russians were an absolute wave of destruction comming through. There is a reason people prefferred to surrender to the brits or US

[–] Bloomcole@lemm.ee 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There is a reason people prefferred to surrender to the brits or US

Bcs they were kind to nazis and saw no problem rehabilitating them, letting them escape and partner with them against communism.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 0 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Uh huh, sure. The innocent communists that totally weren't the ones to start the war, kill off officers, commit genocide, execute POWs.

Nah, fuck the Soviet Union and fuck Nazi Germany. The only difference between them is that one side lost, the other side won and managed to convince people like you that they were "saviours"

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Are you denying anything I said? Saying those things didn't happen?

[–] Bloomcole@lemm.ee 0 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Come on, let's hear a joke and explain about how they started the war, and commited genocide.
"kill off officers, execute POWs" I sure hope so. That's what you do with nazis, and everyone in WW2 have done that.
Well the americunts only shot the small ones, the big nazis they saved and kept in power.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_invasion_of_Poland

Soviet invasion on the 17th of September, 1939.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katyn_massacre

A massacre of 22000 polish military officers

Show me the nazis that they killed, show me the joke. I could keep going on with a shitton of links, but you won't care anyway.

[–] Bloomcole@lemm.ee 0 points 15 hours ago

I will take the word of glorious communists over nazis any day.
https://www.idcommunism.com/2016/04/the-real-story-of-katyn-massacre.html
Who killed the Poles in ukraine, or the jews, Russians, etc...?
Nazis,nazis, nazis.
Always nazis.
And they lie to this day like Bucha.
One day the mayer of that shitty little town is laughing that the Russians are gone.
Then videos of ukrofascist Safari regiment saying they will kill collaborators.
And 3 days later suddenly they noticed Russians killed 10 gazillion people! LOL

[–] lime@feddit.nu 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

the nazis were talking about fighting "bolshevism" before the war even broke out.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah, so were the Poles and most of Europe. The soviet union wasn't a "role model" country, it was a totalitarian regime.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 16 points 4 days ago

Finally, some good fucking news

"One reason why we don’t kill is because we are not used to it. I never killed anybody, but I have done just the same thing. I have had a great deal of satisfaction over many obituary notices that I have read. I never got into the habit of killing. I could mention the names of many that it would please me if I could read their obituaries in the paper in the morning."

DER ANGRIFF STEINERS WAR EIN BEFEHL!!!11!

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

STEINER'S [something] WAS A [negative abstract noun]!!!

This is my A2 German. I have to work on the vocab. The negative abstract noun feels like "treachery" or something but possibly I'm completely off.

[–] LeFrog@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It could be roughly translated to "Steiner's attack was an order". Felix Steiner was the leader of "Kampfgruppe Steiner". They were formed during the end of WWII to help defending Berlin against allied forces. But Steiner realised that his military equipment and personnel was not sufficient to start any counterattack against the advancing allied forces.

In the movie "Der Untergang" Adolf Hitler is shown receiving the message regarding Steiner's refusal to start the counterattack. Basically Hitler is reacting to this message like "I told Steiner to start the counterattack. But he refused to obey. It was an order but he didn't do anything to help us."

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

That sure is a neat fact of the day! I've heard the guy who shot him was even nominated for a Nobel peace price!

[–] deeferg@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Question for any historians in here that are better at googling than I am.

When did the world learn Hitler committed suicide? Reading the paper, I imagine the whole world just found out he had died, and likely suggested dying in battle or something obscure. When did Germany admit to the world that it was actually a suicide?

[–] lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No need to Google anything; this is covered comprehensively in the linked article

[–] deeferg@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thanks, didn't even notice which community I was in.

It was interesting to read and compare it to current times where "no one really knew" the real reason until their 1952 trial it seemed, where they questioned members who had seen Hitler's dead body regarding this, and they used testimonies to set the record straight. Then his death certificate in 1956. Insane about Stalin and his disinformation campaign to keep the army going, and comparisons to our own times now. Bastard knew the day after his death and started throwing out all of the "he ran to Argentina!" Bullshit that we still hear to this day.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

[–] lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Insane about Stalin and his disinformation campaign

I agree, completely insane. They can't help but be manipulative. Sociopathy/psychopathy

[–] D_C@lemm.ee 2 points 4 days ago

Ohhhhh the original Hitler, not shitler.

I was for a second hoping the Orange TurdNugget had finally done the whole world a favour and popped his clogs (in a slow and excruciatingly painful way)
