I actually like Dedra and Syril, when they’re on screen I can’t look away in like a morbid curiosity way I guess

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

Especially when the most Italian and/or Jewish mother is on screen

Well, one of these was my favorite season 2 couple before they made us bury our gays.

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I love that people refuse to name it so and debate endlessly that AKSHUALLY cinta being lexa-ed wasnt fridging or burying your gays because they like Andor or something. Yes bury your gays is not when gay person dies in general, but when that gay person finally gets to onscreen kiss her lover and then gets shot minutes after to hammer home the seventh time that omg the rebels are disorganized. Also that dialogue with Vel was so cliché incoming tragic death speech that I was expecting for vel to die. Also Bix was a damsel in distress and just sat around before the men in her life handed her, her PTSD-begone moment.

I did roll my eyes at the predictability of cinta's death in this context, the only real defence I can think of is that 7/10 of these characters will presumably all be dead within the next 6 episodes anyway

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thats not really a given in the first place, but I was expecting Ghorman to have the most of the character casualties. I guess Bix will bite it during the ghorman massacre. And yeah I was taken aback by the laziness of that plot point. Given that they did something similar during the aldhani heist but both survived.

in general I think this season has alternated between "pretty good" and "pretty cringe" on an a scene to scene basis more wildly than I remember s1 doing, probably as a result of them condensing and excerpting four planned seasons down to one. I feel like it should provide the encouragement and inspiration to other people to keep fleshing out the universe in a way that isn't just lightsaber battles but also isn't terminally dull, unfortunately it is much more likely a fluke not to be repeated

I feel the exact same way. One thing I've noticed, is it really feels like they are trying for the shock factor now, rather than writing the story of a revolution that will naturally have tragedy. They did the same "person is shot off screen but they made it obvious anyways" thing with Brasso and just repeated it, which felt lazy and formulaic.

probably as a result of them condensing and excerpting four planned seasons down to one.

Which is weird because the first 3 episodes felt like a lot of filler. It certainly feels rushed, like they didn't take their time to pace out the show properly, unlike the first season. Episodes 4-6 were so much better.

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I agree so much. A lot of the characters don’t really have arcs but just react to events thrown at them.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

I keep seeing the reply of "Oh, it's only when it's a meaningless or dismissive death," and like, Cinta already wasn't in the season. They could have just not brought her back. Not only is this Bury Your Gays, it's one of the worst examples I've seen. At least Poussey from Orange is the New Black got a few seasons of actual character development before they offed her

Mon’s marriage is so fucking dysfunctional, who’d be cheering that on.

Cereal and Yennefer, hands down
