He still thinks that tariffs are paid by the exporting country. Any time someone tries to tell him different, he gets really mad at them.

I am not joking. It’s real life. I think the US is headed for a pretty big collapse, hopefully we can make it through to something better on the other side.

Star Trek species that shouldn't exist.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 41 points 1 month ago (2 children)

For the two other people here who haven’t watched Star Trek, they’re essentially mentally disabled fascist swindlers and cutthroats bent on fucking their way across the universe with technology they barely understand.

So they are the US government then?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The trump admin, certainly.

Trump is America as it is, with the veneer of civility stripped away.

You can't just slap a U.S. Air Force sticker on a Death Glider and call it yours

they are basically the CCP, but without the technical know how to operate to fully reverse engineer it.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 7 points 1 month ago

a race of species in trek, that steals technology, but are too stupid intelligently, to develop their own and also have underdeveloped language skills.

He literally doubled-down on the MS-13 tattoos being on Kilmar Abrego Garcia's hand. No, not the symbols, the false text-key clearly added to the image to "explain" them. But Trump thinks the letters & numbers are actually there. Dude's not doing well mentally...

in his intelligence briefings, he can only comprehend when things are summarized or bullet points.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Wild of you to think he comprehends them

Mark Carney was very clear in saying any revenue from tariffs will be used to help anyone whose employment is affected by them in Canada. In America, this would be dismissed as socialism.

Trump has stated no clear intention for tariff revenues in the US. Probably subsidies to his cronies and some type of scheme to enrich himself.

Pay for the 20,000 new brownshirts (sorry, Homeland Security & ICE agents) he just said he'll hire.

Crazy that it took only 100 years for America to descend into Nazism. Really thought collective memory would be longer than that.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

I'm surprised it took that long

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

And unlike taxes, tariffs are collected by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a division of the DHS!

So it might not even need to go through the Treasury!

Isn't it wonderful to have a strong, idealistic authoritarian leader singlehandedly wield unchecked power in the pursuit of punishing people for being different? We should have a name for that

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

That is 100% absolutely his thinking. It will likely have some true results as well. All of them horrifyingly unethical, most of them illegal, and not one goddamned motherfucker will stop any of it.

Obligatory.

[–] LuckyPierre@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

Except we don't want the headline beef or chicken. We have very high food safety and animal welfare standards in the UK and they just don't qualify on either count.
