"I like getting fucked over" is a weird thing to brag about but aight

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I was a big windows supporter until win11 when they started adding crazy shit like whatever it is that takes screenshots of every you do. And a bunch of other moves that were even more brain-dead than usual.

My next computer will be something like bazzite, or SteamOS (when they release v3 for real), since they have Linux desktop modes for my desktop needs.

What's this in reference to? I'm out of the loop.

[–] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Lemmy has a lot of Linux users. Saying you use Windows is like being a heritic to the faith.

So today I made Vegan lentil hamburgers; then I added bacon to them.

[–] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think this is fine. You're replacing part of the protein, which is better than none.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly it's a lot easier to be a vegetarian if by "vegetarian" you mean "doesn't worry too much about animal fat and bacon bits in fucking everything for no reason"

Doesn't really work with veganism but it's a lot less stress for most of the harm reduction

[–] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Well then it's not vegetarian anymore. I think the kids call it "flexitarian" 🙂

Or maybe you mean just the worrying part?

[–] DrunkAnRoot@sh.itjust.works 41 points 1 week ago (4 children)

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[–] LGTM@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You mean installing right? You couldn't have finished compiling by now

[–] DrunkAnRoot@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I’m fine with Windows 10 for now, but when its no longer supported I will have to either use an unsupported OS, replace my (perfectly good) PC or switch to Linux. I know what I’ll be choosing.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

If I was you, I'd start that process now, dual boot for a bit. Make the transition gradually.

[–] original_reader@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

I am doing that for friends and family. For now Windows is the default in Grub. Most are trying out Linux and like it.

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

This is what I've done. I know I'll have to fully rip the bandaid off at some point, but sometimes you find a program that just won't run on your system for some reason

A good example is MTG Forge. Despite having a native Linux version, it just crashes every time I try to load a custom deck. Works perfectly on my windows version tho

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

Or install ltsc 🤷

[–] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 4 points 1 week ago

Check out pop Linux. I made the move a couple months ago and my games work great.

You mean arch with steam preinstalled?

[–] original_reader@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[breathing through mask]

I find your lack of faith disturbing. You can install Windows 11 anyways.

Be careful not to choke on your aspirations.

Just use Enterprise IoT LTSC 2024, it doesn’t require tpm 2 and secure boot

[–] NotProLemmy@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

linux is free and it can do pretty much everything windows can, but better.

Windows 10 LTSC can be downloaded from official links found here. An activation script is available from the same source.

Using this allows you to continue using Windows 10 with much less issue for quite a few more years.

A tool like O&O Shutup is also invaluable for maintaining your sanity on currently supported versions of Windows.

[–] theotherbelow@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 1 week ago

Windows is great if you don't care about privacy, performance, stability, longevity, freedom, ownership, community, etc.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

He is also fine murdering children. Guess who else is helping murder children? So Microsoft is Darth Vader.

[–] tiramichu@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

Don't wait. Do it now before your hand is forced.

I tried to daily drive Linux. Updated mint and I had to manually fix stuff to even complete the upgrade. My video editing software, required for one of my jobs, no longer worked. At that point, I ran out of time to mess with it and am, at least for the time being, back on windows
