One little phrase snapped me out of it.

“It’s who you know, not what you know, bro.”

It’s an open secret that getting a job in this day and age is a battle of nepotism, and even when I do have some nepotism I find another nepo baby out nepo baby’s me.

There's always a bigger nepo baby. 🐟

People my age have seen their parents destroy their bodies and minds at thankless jobs for 20+ years and they have nothing to show for it, so, gee, wonder why?

My dad, still working while retired, is still picking up shifts when his boss asks him to. He cancelled plans to babysit because he got called into work. I ended up chewing him out for being a fucking lapdog and it was fine but still. That mentality is hard to break

I had a roommate that would describe taking a dump as "doing work". like she would stand up and announce "well I've got some work to do" and head to the can. or if someone was going to the crapper she would say, "going to work?" cracked me up.

she was from long island, if you're having trouble picturing this.

Having a job before you're legally allowed to smoke drink or vote will also have this effect.

People mainly looking at reality for what it is rather than what they want it to be

Yeah, bcs "people" saw what happened to millennials & don't want any of that.

To be fair I didn't used to believe it, either. I was just too stupid to express it and listened to the swine around me who said I'd get over it, I'd deal with it in time etc etc.
