it's so annoying lmao please stop

edit: people don't really seem to get what i'm referring to.

people will say things like "my guy, you're literally advocating for authoritarian communism"

which is identical to "brother, you're literally advocating for authoritarian communism"

i dont like it!

Hell yeah bruthur

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Any "gender neutral" use of masc words sucks and should be beaten to death

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

With a stick, preferably. kim-blood

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] amazonshopper@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"I'm the decider, and I decide what is best, brother!" - George W. Hogan

I am guilty of the opposite of just calling everyone "GRRRL" and I gotta remind myself to control the habit when I am around my trans masc and enby friends.

[–] amazonshopper@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

that sounds based though edit: obviously not when talking to masc/enbies

I remember when everyone suddenly started saying "my brother in Christ" a few years ago.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 2 weeks ago

that has led to some fun abstractions though
i enjoyed "my nibling in baal" for a bit

"Jive turkey is the new skibidi"

[–] amazonshopper@hexbear.net -2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

allistics and not comprehending what people are saying because they immediately assume they have a perfect understanding of a strangers mind i-cant

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

Based on the original post I promise I never assumed I could understand your mind.

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

so ur not complaining about older slang “replacing” newer slang? That seems to be the correct assessment to my autistic ass

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I've been saying to myself "oh bro-ther" for years now I picked it up from my mom.

[–] Chana@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago

"Oh brother this guy stinks" is an essential part of the repertoire

[–] amazonshopper@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

that's different you're safe

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

Call everyone baby

[–] tamagotchicowboy@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It sure is, everyone is a bro, even your grandparents.

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I guess if your dad is Oedipus?

[–] tamagotchicowboy@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, your dad is your bro, but so is your mom, sister, ofc your actual bro. If you look in the mirror there's a bro staring back at you and if you go outside you wave to your bros next door before going to work.

Seriously though its some reflection of society, idk what kind, and makes me think of the Goodburger song but swap bro for dude. Anyway, brother is rare, I hear bro/bruh everywhere though.

[–] gramxi@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

kinda hoped sib would take off

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"sure thing, friend."
"I'm not your friend, guy."
"I'm not your guy, pal."
"I'm not your pal, sport."
"I'm not your sport, son."
"I'm not your son, chief."
"I'm not your chief, dude."
"I'm not your dude, bro."
"I'm not your bro, man."
"I'm not your man, ace."

and on and on. had a roommate who taught me this "game", which would be triggered anytime someone referred to the other, absentmindedly, as a term like "buddy". the one who couldn't come up with the next random term immediately or laughed at the others' typically over serious delivery "lost".

a master bullshitter, she was from long island and was pretty fuckin good at it. very deadpan. none of our mutuals could keep it going for more than one or two, so if course found it all "fucking ridiculous".

[–] omegathrowaway@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not your ace, buddy.

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

That’s how old Guatemalan men talk lol

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

Reject brother

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

好,我会用《同志》称呼你

[–] Chana@hexbear.net -1 points 2 weeks ago

All of them are annoying. Okay black people can say brother but definitely not white people that's always annoying.

So what so you think of an ironic, "brah"?
