"The Left" includes an incredibly vast spectrum of beliefs, movements, and ideologies, including some that are repugnant to me (e.g. vanguardism).
“Vanguardism” as a pejorative, that’s a new one. Either this is the sort of anarchist who thinks a group getting big enough to need an org chart constitutes fascism, or this is some Vaushite that just picked a random bit of ML jargon out of a hat and slapped an -ism on it.
I have an anarchist coworker who uses the term pejoratively. He regularly rails against AES whenever the topic of capitalism or socialism come up, and even quoted Zizek about how dangerous true believers in the liberation of the proletariat are.

I've never heard the term "Vanguardism" until Vicky 3 started using it as a generic descriptor for Marxism-Leninism so you can be like 80% sure someone who uses the term is a Paradox nerd or heard it from a Paradox nerd
I literally only play that game because I love the silly things you can do in it to make communism happen. Look, playing the USSR in an economic simulator or a Great Patriotic War game is awesome. But ahistorical revolution paths are even better. I swear, playing Vicky 3, is the only time I can ever get myself to admit that maybe the USSR shouldn't be held up as the be all and end all of communism, maybe the symbols of modern ML ideals don't need to be specifically Soviet symbols, maybe vanguardism doesn't have to be the exact words "all power to the soviets". (Most of the time, I'll say things about us being stuck in 1917, but... I'm worse than the comrades I'm criticizing. I still call myself a Bolshevik, for one, and I do tend to say "soviet" when I mean "council". Among other terminology from Soviet times that hasn't made any sense to still use since '91.)
Point is, I generally only play that game because I like its "vanguardism", and I always choose that path over any other leftist path. (As much as twelve year old me would have enjoyed the fantasy that anarchist paths in these games tend to offer.) And I do like the term in the context the game uses it in, and the context it's started to take on in RL politics.

I've seen PSL shut down protests by convincing people that the protest is "over".
It means they showed up to a protest where PSL did all the work and was mad they weren't handed the mic when they stormed the stage
A couple years back PSL helped organize a Palestine solidarity march here, working with local non-communist MENA groups. There was a planned marching route, a little street fair beforehand, and a lot of collaboration with most of the active communist orgs in the area. It was an opportunity for us commies to get together and try and mend some of the party divides, and also to show the MENA orgs that communists were reliable allies. It took a lot of convincing to get them on board.
Part way through the march a black bloc came and started smashing windows, assaulting onlookers for the crime of having their cameras out, smashing cars, just being an absolute menace.
The PSL organizers did call the march short and ended the "official" event but encouraged people who wanted to stay to go to the nearby student-run event while we tried to smooth things over with the MENA groups.
The anarchists did not want to follow the plan. They did not care about the solidarity-building purposes of this march. They wanted to smash a starbucks, and post on Instagram about how they owned a bunch of tankies.

They just decided to be dishonest and drop a pile of substantial issues and say, "so this is what you think is stupid shit!?" when they hadn't said anything like that. And, thus, they created a thread of arguing about stupid shit, i.e. attacking people with things nobody said and seeking conflict over things like vanguardism for no reason.

Imagine thinking that showing Israeli Zionists the humanity of Palestinians will change their mind. They literally have telegram channels where they post videos of people getting killed and family grieving and write a caption like "Islamonazis owned"
Edit: I probably would have said "incompetent" rather than "weak" because that's not a great term to use in this scenario, but their objection is still ridiculous because shitflinging in public does absolutely make groups look disorganized and the practice should therefore be banned.
