i wanted to get into this game but couldn’t. i hate when i can’t get into something like this that’s universally loved. just not my kinda game i guess but i wish it was

Same. I love turn based combat, but I can't stand jrpg turn based. If this was more like wasteland, bg3, or pf:wotr I'd be all over it.

I think that's a good sign of taste though. Games are so incredibly diverse, even the ones that reach the peak of their genre can be just eh for others.

I'll never finish Witcher 3 because that's just too much stuff for my little adhd brain. Ghost of Tsushima was a wonderful 2 hours of ogling at the most beautiful wind-swept grass fields I've ever seen and I'll never touch it again.

There is probably fantastic shmups or fighting games that I will never touch. But I gladly bang my head for 5 hours against the next Gulgagram, Darkblood Impaler From Soft throws at me and defend the 15 ms reaction window I have to dodge his instant kill grab.

Does this mean the dev studio is about to layoff a bunch of people?

[–] fox@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

They're all former Ubisoft and the core studio is only like 30 people. They had a bunch of art asset and music contractors but a contractor relationship is different from laying off employees imo

Yeah, contractors know the game. They enter the contract knowing it will end at some point.

They'll probably get more work when they inevitably start their next game since clearly they're good lol

Is it that good or is it just babby's first JRPG for westerners who can't into japanese storytelling?

It's definitely the real deal, building on past greats rather than watering them down. Combat alone is definitely competing for turn-based GOAT, with clear influences from games like persona, FF, and lost odyssey combined to make something greater than its parts.

It is actually that good
