Always loved MST3K, only just recently learned about Bill being a leftist. I’ve been really enjoying following him on there.
Mike is a chud and Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) is a turbolib, but Crow rules. He was also the best robot.
Interesting, I always assumed they were all turbolibs. I did know about Mike being very religious, but not much else.

Unfortunately it is one of the reasons the show still holds up, because they are riffing and making references to media and events across the political spectrum.
True, but they all did have standards. Egregious content was cut from a few old movies got cut because of that. For instance the filmmakers used real footage of the bombing of Japan for the film Invasion of the Neptune Men and they cut all that so it didn’t get broadcast. They thought it tasteless to be riffing over the top of footage of people actually being blown up.
So yeah Mike is chuddy but he’s not

How do they believe there can be a coalition when the "compromise" they demand is the denial the humanity of the parties you think should join you?

Newsom IS my enemy. I can indeed compromise and form coalitions with people I don't agree with if we merely have different priorities. I put fighting global warming ahead of most other causes but I have all the time in the world for people fighting racism or homelessness. I can also compromise with people who have different beliefs as long as we can gree on the important stuff - I am in my personal life a pretty strict/strong atheist but I have less than no problems working with Christians who believe in liberation theology! But my disagreement with Newsom is too fundamental. He is doing the fascist's work for them. Compromising with him is, thus, compromising with fascists, even if he himself is not one he is effectively in coalition with them by doing their work.
That's just... How that works. It may be purity politics to refuse to ally with someone who isn't advancing some of the causes you're advancing. It is absolutely not purity politics to refuse to ally with someone who is actively fighting against the causes you care about. I'm not going to fight alongside Newsom's camp because I would be fighting against my own causes. How is this hard to grasp.
