A place for optimism, relentless positivity, anti-doomerism, and snuggle sessions.

We're all in this together, and a better world is possible!

This is now also a space for organizing tips for our collective survival as we confront climate change and everything else. Still no doom-posting. We're here to work together, support each other, and boldly face the future.

Rules:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the site-wide Code of Conduct

  2. No doom, no gloom, only bloom. There's plenty of room for doomerism elsewhere. This community is solely for having a positive outlook on the future and spreading good vibes.

  3. Be kind to your fellow users. This also means no arguing in the comm. Arguments and negativity are not conducive to blooming. Constructive discussion is good. No interest-policing. Support your comrades in their joy!

  4. Always share good news. We can't exactly enforce this one, but if you have good news, please share it with us! Keeping happiness and positivity to yourself is the twelfth type of liberalism.

Think I might make these bloomer posts a weekly thing again. Do you guys think that's a good idea or would that be annoying? I just think it's a nice thing to have a place where people can share good vibes, considering how there is quite a lot of terrible shit going on at the moment I think people should have a place to get a break from that.

Heyo! I know I used to vent a lot on my doomer posts here but I got some nice stuff going on.

  1. I started exercising more. Other people telling me that I apparently got more muscle which is good. Also my mood is better.

  2. Half-moved to Linux recently (fuck you Adobe and ToonBoom), doing dualbooting. I've been mostly daily driving CachyOS and everything just flies. Thankfully I got some assistance installing stuff.

  3. Reconnected with an old friend, making my irl friend count to a not impressive 1. He's a bit too much of an outdoors person unlike me but he's cool. He even texts me first to check on me which I don't get a lot. Though i do have a lot of online peeps that I know of. I just struggle connecting with people irl. I just feel like an alien or a robot with some social cues.

  4. Gonna get some experience storyboarding and writing for an indie animated short with some peeps! Gonna start working on It as of next week.

  5. Here (Serbia) the blockades are hopefully ending soon after being a nothingburger for a whole year. Turned to electoralist bullshit. So I can actually get back to doing college stuff (even though I'm not a fan of It).

  6. Got a driving license recently!

That's kinda It.

my kid is just over 2 weeks old

it may be fucking hard, tiring and all-consuming sometimes, but my god is this little dude cute. straight up cutest baby i've ever seen.

here's to trying to create a better world for him to enter into, even if it's an uphill battle. here's to giving him a better upbringing than I had, even if mine wasn't that bad comparatively. here's to raising him to be a better person than I ever have been.

Congratulations! My oldest just turned 5. Having a kid in 2020 was a real wild time... Those first few months are hard but I will say it continues to be hard just in new and different ways. It is rewarding though. Every week someone tells me how awesome my kid is and I'm always happy to hear how kind and helpful and fun she is to her friends and classmates.

Aww congrats

I love being able to recognize that so much of my relentless doomerism and misanthropy quelled once I got a whiff of understanding material conditions

I still relapse when I have to deal with reactionary bs and the general state of the world, but understanding why things happen and what actions need to be taken to solve them really helps to remove the general aimless despair I was drowning in in the past

I find it both quells and makes it worse for me, depending.

Someone passing me on the street said they liked my fit like a week ago

I do look pretty good lately

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I repotted some plants this weekend and they're looking much happier (peace lily, monstera, rubber plant and some other orphan plant I don't know what it is). Also got another adoptee (a calathea) from my brother that hopefully I can nurse to health.

Hello fellow plant person!

Here is my fern, his name is Bob:

[–] StillNoLeftLeft@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Thank you! It's my first boston fern and for some reason it seems to be thriving.

Bob lore:

Bob The Fern

I got this fern as a baby plant in 2024 and put it in an underwatering pot. It really seems to thrive in it. First I did all the pebble trays and stuff for moisture, but soon gave that up, because he clearly doesn't need it. I never mist my plants, but they do have grow lights.

Bob got so big that I had to split him last spring so he became four Bobs. I call the offsping the sons of Bob. Two of them now live with my family members and one I kept outside all summer and it's almost as big as Bob now that I took it indoors again. So the picture is OG Bob today and he is getting huge again, I'll have to split him again next spring.

Here's Bob last spring before his surgery:

I think it's a good idea, I have definitely fallen down a doomer hole at times and I appreciate bloomer posts when I see them.

Here is a picture of a goofy dog

Yesterday before falling asleep I thought to myself Im the luckiest dude alive. I truly feel blessed. Of course there will be trials and tribulations ahead, but considering the state of the world and the struggles so many people are facing, I feel like Im thriving.

Not trying to brag I just seriously feel like I got dealt an overall good hand of cards in life (despite living as a minority in the imperial core)

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm glad for you, hopefully I can feel that way sometime too. Send me some of your luck haha.

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Honestly a BIG part of this for me is having loving and supportive parents who were always there for me and supported me well into my later years.

I know many folks who struggle with their families. Having a support system like this and having a great relationship with your parents is not something I take for granted and im very thankful for having such amazing parents.

I planted my lemon tree yesterday and it's not dead yet so that's pretty cool

Im gonna go see some people later and I'm using my chef powers to bring vegan Mediterranean wraps with pickled banana peppers and cherry tomatoes that i grew and people are gonna be like yummy

[–] FettermansFinalStroke@hexbear.net 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I’ve been doing a lot of work with my org and it’s really giving me hope about the potential here. Anyone who tells you the US will never have a revolution is dead wrong. The number of people who came up to us at the no kings protests wanting to do more and learn about socialism was frankly insane.

I bought a house last week and moved in, and also made a really cool friend this month too. I am doing a hell of a lot better now than I have been for the last decade+ living at my parents house, depressed and lonely and friendless and with undiagnosed autism fucking with my head and making me miserable as hell. Hopefully I can make some more friends, my new friend is great but she lives 150 miles away and she's real busy with school so we can't really see each other much.

Also I'm learning how to cook, about to head to a discount store to pick up some cooking essentials like pots and pans and utensils.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Good luck on owning a house, hope it isn't too stressful, and i hope when the economy dies neither of us are rendered homeless <3 <3

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

Thanks! It was a little stressful at first because I was missing stuff (like lamps lol) but I've got all the essentials and I'm settled in now so it's going great.

A weekly bloomer post is a great idea, let's go!

My weekly bloomer stuff: The time was changed last night and I got to sleep an hour longer! I am instantly back to normal and feel better when it's "normal time".

The following months are the best times until I am forced to get up in the middle of the damn night again come spring.

I am enjoying a new baking related special interest, this time it's pies and tarts. I've had so many over my life and love how it gives me a new skillset every time. Human learning is wondrous to me, all the things we can do with our bodies and minds.

Made an amazing caramel tart after work on Friday and now have a pie dough in the fridge for a savory French onion tart and I'm so exited. I bake and listen to my commie podcasts, it's the best time.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ooo what podcasts do you like?

[–] StillNoLeftLeft@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

I do the Deprogram every week for the banter mostly, it's sort of lighthearted but leftist.

Then I circle through other podcasts like RevLeft, Upstream (a bit lib depending on episode), Guerrilla history, the dialectic at work (not ML), The East is a Podcast, the speeches of Michael Parenti if feeling doomer and others that I just come across. Tried Bad Hasbara yesterday, but it didn't stick for me.

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 11 points 3 months ago

Great idea, Owl.

I planted my spring bulbs yesterday, 500 tulips and 500 daffodils in one big bed by the road so it will be an explosion of colour in spring for the neighbourhood. It's very satisfying to start things now that will make the escape from winter even nicer

[–] Blockocheese@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

I went to an event with friends yesterday and had an amazing time and we agreed we'll do it again next year blob-no-thoughts

I met my one friends parents before we went and his mom is an actual angel. The absolute sweetest woman ever and such an amazing mom.

Im kinda overthinking some of my social interactions but im choosing to believe that it went well overall and they dont secretly hate me.

Also on the drive back we found a new song that we love and ill forever associate it with that day crush

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago

Weird thing to put in a bloomer thread, but one place I interviewed for asked about me not being a local, I was honest and said I wasn’t but was willing to relocate 100% on my dime and I didn’t get an immediate rejection.

[–] rtstragedy2@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago

i bought a bunch of vegan junk food like instant noodles and vegan mac and cheese for when I'm too tired and burned out to cook, hoping that will help with the existential "every meal takes an hour to make" dread I've been having

[–] CleverOleg@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

I’m gonna be unionized soon!

Also I keep working on radicalizing my radlib brother (he’s a cool radlib, we don’t argue and he’s said his only beef with socialism is he feels it’s not practical to achieve in the current political context… which like, true, sure. I love him but he’s never been one to have any imagination) and even time we talk to seems to be pushed further along. He’s watching Hasan a lot recently and I think that’s helping.

[–] SwitchyandWitchy@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago

I love this post!

I've been doing more self care and journaling which have both been really helping me get out of my funk and actually do stuff. I did my nails yesterday and I forgot how much I like seeing the color on them wherever I catch a glimpse of them.
