Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Dude already has his billions.

We need a wealth tax.

He financed a spoiler candidate for OR governor last election. That spoiler candidate was too obviously right wing to siphon enough votes, despite what she was being paid to say.

Phil knight is strongly opposed to democracy.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 58 points 3 months ago

Imagine, someone who champions slave labor to make over priced, defective "athletic" products is against democracy...

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 46 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What's he trying to get a pardon for?

[–] yeather@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 months ago

The same files everyone else wants a pardon for.

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 29 points 3 months ago

If I'm reading this right, the record he's breaking is his own.

Heh. Fuck Nike.

Overpriced fashion accessories for impressionable people with disposable income.

I never have nor will I ever purchase a pair of Nike shoes.

We truly do have the best government money can buy.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Growing up poor in the 80s/90s Nike was a hated symbol, there was no chance I'd get anything beyond walmart brands, if new was even an option. So I learned to hate these symbols, but Nike chief among them. Today it's funny but I can't bring myself to buy it even tho it's a much cheaper brand.

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I can relate. I grew up in the Mississippi Delta so poverty was certainly not a lifestyle choice.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 2 points 2 months ago

I have one pair and i like them. But for a lot of people it's a religion.

He’s on the list.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

SO glad I don’t have any Nikes. Up yours, Phil.

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wanted to buy Nikes recently. But all their designs were ugly, so I ended up with adidas. Not sure if owner is better than nike or not, but at least I didn’t get Nikes.

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Whatever you do, don't Google "Adidas history" then

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

How unsurprising this oligarch. Always betting on the fucking elephant.

Never had a swishy because they were then expensive 33 years ago as they are now.

[–] Draegur@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wish someone would step up and take care of this problem.

[–] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Anyone know of comfortable sneaker alternatives that are reasonably priced, available globally, and aren't hideously ugly?

I've been wearing Jordans for most of my life. They're cheap, they look good (I like them) and they're comfy. But the quality has been going down the last 5 years or so and the writing had been on the wall.

I guess now is as good a time as any to make a change but every time I've looked for alternatives I've been frustrated that nobody makes shoes I actually like.

[–] Lamplighter@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm quite partial to asics

[–] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for the recommendation. I took a look but didn't see anything I liked. To me, they give off a middle aged divorced dad look that I'm not quite old enough or divorced enough to pull off

Depends on... well, a lot of factors. I'd start by looking at "walking shoes" and "trail runners", they tend to be lightweight and comfortable without fully giving up on durability. Appearance is a matter of taste.

There’s stiff competition for that role I mean trump, Thiel and Stephen miller are all higher on the list. He’s one of their officers in the demon army for sure though

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

He looks like a cancerous testicle.

[–] dutchkimble@lemy.lol 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Didn't the Republicans boycott Nike some years ago? Do they still? It would be very funny of everybody boycotted them.

[–] 33550336@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I thought this is an AI generated remake of musk's photo :)
