Everyone is saying porn mods, but I know several friends who just load the game with so many mods in general that it's an unstable mess that constantly crashes

[–] tiramichu@sh.itjust.works 80 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The 'game' is playing with your mod load order until you find a combination that doesn't crash.

Then you add more mods and play the 'game' again.

[–] GargleBlaster@feddit.org 31 points 1 month ago

Wait, you can actually play Skyrim? I've always thought it was just a modding simulator. At least that's what I do

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Day 18: I have finished installing environmental mods. Skyrim looks majestic. Every NPC is T-posed. I must return to the mod manager. The patches are so far away. I fear for my sanity.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I played on the Xbox 360.

That was the experience without mods.

10/10. Would crash again. Never really felt the need to play a Bethesda game since. Which is handy because there's only been like two.

[–] fishy@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

I feel this. I was in college when Skyrim came out and my gaming PC was in the living room next to the TV so my buddy would play Skyrim from the couch and I'd be on my PC. The 360 version crashed more and took like a solid minute to load any new map. If you entered the wrong building, 2 minutes gone and a small chance of a crash that would take like five minutes to reboot.

I had a roommate that only console gamed, and I just couldn't understand it. how tf do you play Skyrim for over 600 hours with a controller? I'd go nuts from input restrictions.

same guy only played Minecraft that way. blew my mind.

[–] moakley@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How do you play 600 hours sitting up in a chair? That's not play. That's work.

[–] The_Helmet_Stays_On@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] moakley@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

That's still sitting up.

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

This is typically my issue. I do the same thing with Fallout and Starfield too. Bethesda makes some really crazy mod installation simulators... It's almost as if there's a regular game in there. Maybe just one more mod and I'll finally be able to play it!

[–] InnerScientist@lemmy.world 73 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

They're creating their mod list, fixing bugs, add mods they forgot, re-ordered the mod list and have to wait 10 minutes for the game to even load after each change. And in the end they don't even play the finished modpack.

[–] cholesterol@lemmy.world 31 points 1 month ago

Modding was the game

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 64 points 1 month ago

Maybe I'm odd, but I related heavily to this meme without thinking of porn mods. I've played hundreds, probably thousands of hours in Skyrim across various platforms, almost all without mods. Even the creation club nonsense in the anniversary addition I find annoying and half-baked- I wish there was a way to revert back to plain old Special Edition.

To me the feeling of loading up Skyrim for 15 minutes at a time several times a day means.... I'm not doing well. It means that I don't have the mental capacity to seek out or learn a new game. That I'm probably looking for something comfortable and familiar to make me feel better. And while Skyrim is that, sometimes I load up a save and see that I'm about to start a dungeon and the prospect just seems overwhelming. Or I'm over encumbered and need to spend a bunch of downtime crafting, trading, and organizing inventory.

It's the kind of behavior that, over an extended period, could be a sign of depression.

Someone must be trying out pomodoro time blocking.

[–] richie_golds@lemmy.ca 45 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mods are fun. Half the time I start the game and I begin experiencing intermittent crashing, and now have to test each mod individually to find out which one is the culprit. Is it any of the Beyond Skyrim mods? No. Is it the archery rebalancing mod? Nope, not that one. Hmm… my high-res hair mod has caused problems before. Uh… not this time. Could it be the one that redoes the entire College of Winterhold? No, thank the gods.

Two hours later… it’s the mod that makes goats scream. Ffs. That was my favourite one!

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You gotta have the swearing mudcrabs and the screaming goats, NGL

[–] richie_golds@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

Oh god the swearing mudcrabs! How could I have forgotten about that? Oh, and the one that turns the spiders into Spider-Man! Those are positively… legendary!

I honestly thought they were just playing when they poop and they poop a lot

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

I thought that was the Blumpkin mod.

[–] teft@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

Skyrim: Celiac Edition.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago
[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

Playing while working from home maybe?

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I’m trying to figure out why someone would do that when the internet is 85% free porn?

[–] Vupware@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Control. “This big tiddy companion exists only because I will it. Whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent.”

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That was in Ho Country For Old Men, right?

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

iirc, it was from Blood MeTiddyan

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Because they haven't discovered buying an oculus 2 second-hand for $50 and then downloading Virt-a-mate.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

porn is noninteracting. what the people who use sex mods are lacking is intimacy and basic human interaction.

[–] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago

Goonvah-kiin

[–] Venat0r@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

what do they suspect of thier friend?

[–] Skipcast@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Skyrim has a lot of porn mods

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Probably suspect they are jerking it to dirty mods

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

In that other place, mods jerk on you.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Same but fallout 4 for me.

[–] realitaetsverlust@piefed.zip 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

is it lube or semen?

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't get it...is this a euphemism for something?

[–] KazuyaDarklight@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Skyrim nsfw mods.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Mods make the game crash less, but still crash.
