I personally really miss old history channel. Newer youtuber formats don't do it for me so I gravitated to video essays
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online

I throw my videos onto Peertube. And then post onto !peertube@lemmy.world or !videos@lemmy.world and call it a day. Its as easy as pressing the upload button and adding a title half the time. Easier than youtube by leaps and bounds.
Piefed makes it really easy to crosspost from peertube to different communities.
As far as stuff to watch, I like to see custom builds, things people are working on, and podcasts like fireside fedi. More of that :)
Possibly off topic, but one thing I'd like to see is people upgrading the bad special effects of old movies.
"Flash Gordon" has an incredible score from Queen, hilarious dialog, and cheesy effects.
"The White Buffalo" is a great Western about Wild Bill Hickock and Crazy Horse. The actual monster looks like it was made out of cardboard
I believe Corridor Crew does that every now and then, don’t they?
I would love to see a stream of someone starting from a pc without an OS then installing Linux on it, then customizing it to look really good.
The closest thing I can think of is a livestream from Veronica Explains that does something similar, but not quite what I'm looking for.
Here’s a random idea: parody ASMR videos.
Focus exclusively on very loud sounds like a wood chipper, angle grinder, chainsaw, jackhammer, shooting range, etc.
They exist, they are just labled "fail videos"
Chris Boden/physicsduck has a rather unusual collection of "ambient" videos of old machinery running, various hydro dam sneak peeks etc.
Not the same but maybe similar?
I know of people that would appreciate gun range ASMR videos. You'll want to tone down the audio from a sharp crack to more of a buzzing crackle, but adding in the nose of people shuffling around and messing with their guns and you might actually have a hit.
Generally, think about uploading to PeerTube instead of YouTube. Or at least do both.
I barely managed to work out How To Do Lemmy.
I'm perfectly comfortably accepting that I'm an idiot, but I really do think that the fedi onboarding issue is still completely unaddressed
Once you choose an instance it's very close to the same amount of work / understanding, isn't it? So... just choose the default instance.
Not unaddressed, but certainly unresolved. There is no defined end state, so it must always improve.
That's fair, hyperbolic word choice on my part due to frustration
Being an idiot and technologically impaired are two different things!
I saw a video comparing Harry Potter and The Sorecer's Stone with Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone. For those who might not be aware, the book had a different title in the US vs the UK and so four scenes in the film were shot twice to accommodate the different title. One would expect that to throw the timing off by like half a second, but the two cuts of the film line up perfectly. In the side by side comparison, it is noticeable that Harry turns his head more in one than the other.
Sounds like a fun channel, buy would suffer from dcma abuse because of copyright and corporations not knowing what fair use is.
corporations not knowing what fair use is
pretending to not know. They're fully capable of understanding when it helps them make money.
Yea, that's fair.
I'm wondering how the hell channels like CinemaSins gets away with it. One would think that channel would obviously get taken down with the amount of movie clips that he shows. I know he talks over them and thus may be fair game but, that's still a lot.
My head cannon is they got big before Google made deals with rights-holders and now that CinemaSins is part of Fandom they license the videos as part of advertising.
bodycam footage is the best content but I want to see it from other countries as well
