We require that posts link to the original source, not aggregators like Yahoo.

In this case, Bloomberg. Please fix the link or we'll have to remove it.

THIS is wrong on OMG so many levels!!!!! This violates a zillion international laws! Fucking Trump is ushering in the most dangerous world since the start of 20th century.

[–] random_character_a@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago

Yea. It's a slow moving very poorly planned raid.

For some reason that scene from Conan the Barbarian comes to mind, where Conan is asked what is best in life.

Trump is ushering in

Putin has been waiting there since 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea.

[–] lps2@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well before that when he entered Georgia

[–] Lembot_0006@programming.dev 4 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, Georgia was even earlier.

The US is acting the way I do in grand strategy games right now.

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yup, we're going to stellaris level of dystopia soon

What most people fail to see, is that this has less to do with oil (not entirely, but less than I think most realize) and more to do with a failing "free-market" US strategy & trying to assert the capitalist oligarchy. What do neocons fear the most? Socialist-democratic countries succeeding. Also, let's not forget that almost no one is talking about Epstein now.

In all fairness, however any sane person defines "succeeding", Venezuela was doing the opposite of that. Cuba is both much more successful and much closer to the USA. This was mainly about distracting from the Trump-Epstein Scandal and in second place about oil.

Venezuela was doing substantially better the last couple of years, and the sanctions do have a significant impact on their economic stability. Is it really fair to criticize someone for not being very successful when you go out of your way to steal their money & prevent them from making it?

[–] Peruvian_Skies@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago

Cuba has to deal with worse sanctions and has always done better than Venezuela ever since Chávez took control, but especially under Maduro. Ideology aside, Maduro is neither well-intentioned nor competent. Any regime with him at the head would do poorly, no matter if it were socialist, capitalist, liberal, authoritarian, democratic, a theocracy or anything else, and regardless of sanctions.

It is 100% about securing the oil before further expansion. The US isn't going to fuck up like Hitler did. This regime eventually wants all of North America and most of South and Central America.

The threatened captive market is how I've described it before. We after all have never had a free market. We have a captive market and if someone makes a move to threaten it, rules and laws will appear to keep the destabilization from threatening the status quo.

Its why today we have stopped cheap chinese EV's from destroying the huge multi brand cartel that are modern automobile companies. Its why the old fossils running the energy markets are desperate to stop solar and wind.

They have driven what should be a rich country to squalor and starvation to keep them from making the money from their own natural resources. These lazy simpletons we have in charge today are just saying the hidden parts out loud now thinking that it will never affect any of them.

It is why when their control is threatened next time they will be completely violent.

American balkanization cannot come soon enough.

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago

Agreed. The United States as a country is done

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Once the US dives into a civil war, South America should send a collective force straight up through Texas and start kicking ass

As deservedly fun as that might sound, two wrongs don't make a right. 🤷

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

🤞🤞All my hope is on "Canada integrates North Eastern US States in 202X"

How are American Northeasterners? In my ignorance, I see them either as sassy but comparatively worldly, not too racist folks. Maybe they'd fit Canada just fine. 🤷

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Then comes Russia and China filling the power vacuum.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Globally, sure, along with other regional powers but I honestly don't think they'll directly do anything in the land, it might just be too chaotic and lawless to make any profit. The country hasn't been invaded or bombed by anyone and it's already a bit of a warzone in some areas, a drug zombieland in others, imagine what it would look like post American empire collapse...

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago

Illegal act of war by Trump

[–] filister@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Weren't they only concerned about the drugs? /s

[–] jrs100000@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, the deadly drug known by the street names "black gold" and "Texas tea".

The plan here is destroy any trust the world ever had on the USA.

[–] spadge@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

And personally make billions while doing so

So... If Trump is the one calling the cards in Venezuela right now, will he answer for their new policy of arresting journalists? Also, is he the leader of the Maduro's political party now? Because they are still the ones sitting in government...

[–] shittydwarf@piefed.social 10 points 3 weeks ago

Good news, they are also importing "Arresting journalists" from Venezuela
