I've already asked that question on !nostupidquestions@lemmy.world, so I had to ask it again here in this Lemmy community.

Never give up hope friends. It's dark, I know, but all across the world resistance is making progress.

I really like the show Andor, I think it has very strong themes about these exact topics. Take care and be strong! Hope does last 💪

I'm trying to build a socialist movement with my friends at the PSL and trying to rally the people to get involved with community efforts to protect our neighbors from ICE and make sure they're fed in the meantime if they're short on work.

It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Training and developing connections that are not regulated by the state is a good thing, but ultimately, there is a main quest (building up holdings and allies/membership to the point where a mass defection from the capitalist economy becomes possible) and then there are side quests. The side quests must not derail the main quest, but they're fine if they support it.

I'll play a tiny bit of defense but most of my time and resources are going to go into offense, or preparing the mass defection.

All across the internet, every day for the past 3-4 years, I'm making articulate and reasonable arguments as to how and why we working masses need to eat the rich asap.

I'm playing the long game.

If my actions can have even the slightest effect on pushing the working class across the planet to revolt against the billionaires, then I will die a happy man. Organised militant resistance is the only way.

We outnumber them at least 100 to 1 and they know it, they're terrified of it. And the recent revolutions, mostly led by the youth, in Nepal, Madagascar, Bulgaria etc give me hope. I don't know if the people will really win in those countries, but the fact that they throw off their oppressors gives me hope and inspiration.

Every worker deserves to understand our common class interests and the constant and increasing class warfare we're all subjected to. No more left and right thinking, only the billionaires and their lapdog politicians vs the rest of us.

Spreading this message is my life's work 💪 eat the rich asap obvsly 🔥

Copious amounts of chemical filters in order to avoid processing reality.

Or just disconnect from the false internal narrative that things were ever going to be okay. History is one big story of shitty things happening to good people. If you get rid of the just-world fallacy and accept that this part of humanity just crops up sometimes, you'll probably be happier.

Yeah the world is collapsing, it does that every 50 years or so.

One thing I do is I make daily donations to a little food pantry. Even for a little while I can escape my thoughts of Hellworld. Sometimes I leave an inexpensive but nice non-food item. Today it was this...

That's a sick van. Hope it makes some kid happy.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I feel like those windows present a HIPAA issue (still a sick van)

[–] durruticore@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

Under socialism, the people will legally have sick vans

[–] d_cagno@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Organize. Get involved in your community. The state isn't going to save us, but nothing gives me hope like seeing people turn out to help each other.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Organize.

It's really unhelpful to just say "organize". The next sentence is a little more helpful but doesn't really elaborate on the idea of organizing.

[–] PowerLurker@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

it's hard to be super specific because so much is contextual from area to area, but for people in the US on this site i think seeing if you have an active PSL or DSA branch in your area and feeling out the work there is a good plan A (EDIT: oh and i think FRSO has a large presence in the midwest).

if you're in a union or you rent in a building with a tenants union, feel out getting more involved in that too/instead. if your coworkers or neighbors seem disgruntled and you don't have either of those things, feel out the possibility of unionizing or forming a tenants union.

but again, these are just common go-tos/"bread and butter" examples of what it means to organize, there are just too many variables to get hyper specific without knowing more about an individual user's situation. i agree that the sentiment without any follow up can be frustrating, though - and agree that snarky quips as responses are especially unhelpful.

[–] starkillerfish@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Are USians so out of touch that they don’t know what organizing means?

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

This is just a ridiculous quip, and I can't say if it somehow sounds to you like it's enlightened, but it has nothing to do whatsoever with any kind of productive approach to agitating.

[–] starkillerfish@hexbear.net 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

i feel like only USians complain about not understanding what "organize" means.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago

Alright, then update your vibe because it just isn't functional advice and there are extremely few people who will be prompted to useful action by "Organize" because those who theoretically would be generally don't need a one-word imperative to remind them, while it's a uselessly nebulous prompt to everyone else.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Are there anyone doing exactly that?

[–] stevatoo@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's praxis for ye.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

all states are class dictatorships

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is that why you support anarchism? NOT being rude, just asking.

[–] tocopherol@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I don't know the views of miz but authority structures like the state can be viewed as a form of dictatorship, using laws and police with a monopoly on violence to enforce their authority. Right now most states work in favor of the rich elite bourgousie, communists and anarchists both aim to create a classless society but communists believe in wielding a form of "dictatorship of the proletariat" where the state structure is used to seize factories and productive forces and further the betterment of the working class/proletariat rather than completely abolish all forms of state immediately, as far as I understand.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

no, it is why I support AES

“authoritarian” is the worst libertarian meme of all time. The important difference between governments is who they work for— all states are class dictatorships, either ownership class or working class. Putting them on an “authority” scale implies that all governments are somehow separate from the people, and in the same degree.

Saying the state is a class dictatorship sounds like a bit like anarchism. NOT being rude, just saying.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

well, it's not. it's Marxism-Leninism

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Do you think I should read theory a bit more?

[–] miz@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm just gonna do "Why Marxism?" using the "boiling down each paragraph" method. Does that method count as studying? What about processing this information from "Why Marxism?"? I'm a bit worried that I might forget.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Actually, do you have a tip on boiling down each paragraph in what you recommended to me?

[–] D61@hexbear.net 1 points 5 days ago

I think its a reference to "dictatorship of the proletariat" in Marxist texts/theory. A state will either be a dictatorship of the capitalists or a dictatorship of the proletariat.
