1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Where trans people piss is definitely the most important thing Kansas should focus on…

Fuck Republicans.

I really hope cis people globally start to realize that all the attacks on trans people are a way to test the waters for fascism. We were among the first people targeted a hundred years ago, and we're among the first people targeted today

Trans and disabled people are the canary in the fascist coal mine

It’s also been a great way for them to dismantle women’s rights, while proclaiming themselves as “feminists” or “protecting women.”

Being able to ban trans medical care sets a precedent for intervention in medical care, which makes it easier for them to attack abortion and other reproductive health care rights. (Contraception is definitely on the list)

These bathroom bills invite the policing of gender expression. There’s multiple cases of cis women being harassed and chased out bathrooms for being butch, which also serves the purpose of discouraging visibly queer people from being in public. This is also what the conservatives want; think about how much they hate women with dyed hair and undercuts.

This also puts a giant wrench in feminist activist spaces, because you have a bunch of people who’s have redefined “women’s rights” and “feminism” to be inherently in opposition to trans people. There are “feminists” posting Matt Walsh. I have a strong suspicion that at least some of this is paid trolling - that the success of early 2010s internet feminism (#metoo) threatened some powerful people.

we're the first to get thrown under the bus regardless who's in charge.

The thing I always wonder when I hear about these bills is whether cis women would be more uncomfortable with noticeably MtF individuals in their bathroom, or with passing FtM individuals in their bathroom. My money's on the latter.

Buck Angel enters the bathroom the law requires him to use.

Conservative CIS women who supported the bathroom bill:

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Buck Angel is a loser and a jerk. Like, Can we pick a better example than a guy whose claim to fame is porn and hating non-binary people? I could give you 5 reasons he sucks, and someone else could jump in to give you five more.

Jamison Green is a personal hero of mine, and a much better representation of the community.

This is the guy the Right wants in bathrooms.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

100%, I’m in no way making a value statement about the kind of man Buck Angel is.

I just use him as an example because of his extremely masculine appearance, not because of anything to do with who he is as a person.

It’s just kind of annoying that he is probably the most famous trans man, that he’s the example that always gets brought up in this conversation, but that he literally supports bathroom bans for non-op trans women.

Imagine if the only trans women that people knew about was Blair White but a porn star.

I feel like I can speak ex cathedra for all trans men in asking allies to use men like Jamison Green instead. He’s the kind of man that represents the best of us, and I think all men would benefit from reading him.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

What about Schwoz?

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

It’s just kind of annoying that he is probably the most famous trans man,

Never heard of him before today. My reference point is Elliot Page.

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's a terrible catch-22 for trans people. Either you use the restroom that conforms to your apparent gender and risk being charged with a crime, or you use the restroom that conforms to your birth gender and risk being harassed or assaulted by others. Honestly, these laws are just an attempt to punish trans people for existing in a public space.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

The cruelty is the point.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They certainly aren't laws that solve any problem, so we have to assume it's control, harassment, or punishment. Or all of the above.

If they really cared they simply would change the code to one person per private space, by that a full washroom, or a private stall.

The bathrooms in my kids school have private locking stalls floor to cieling and a common washroom area that is fully open to the hallway. All the kids feel safe and comfortable. Adults do to. The common space is safe, the private space is safe.

But these people in Kansas aren't interested in making anyone safe or comfortable. Or even make an effort to do something worthwhile.

They want to make people miserable.

The answer the UK settled on was to ban trans men from essentially all single sex public restrooms.

These kind of laws really exist to be a covert way of banning trans existence in public; there have been trans women in the UK who have sued because they have essentially no ability to use changing rooms or piss at work, because the law doesn’t require employers to provide single stall/all gender restrooms.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Yeah, and those motherfuckers gonna reinstate them all Jim Crow laws.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

KS misspelled my brother’s name on his birth certificate. These people are idiots.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So obsessed with bathrooms

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

In the tape released by the campaign of Brad Carson, the Democratic candidate, Coburn says a campaign worker from Coalgate told him that "lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in southeast Oklahoma that they'll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it. Think about that issue. How is it that that's happened to us?"

Fox News link / Archived alternative](https://archive.ph/P2Lri)

The propaganda is evergreen. There was a commercial I remember ages ago (I think Mormon funded(?)) that was just a creepy guy walking into the bathroom after a little girl in opposition to like gay marriage.

Pretty sure it was an argument against the ERA even.

When you’re actively protecting people’s and murdering citizens none of this matters

Republicans of any kind are ineffectual forgettable human sandbags in the way of common sense and living well

[–] Eddbopkins@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

a good republican is a dishonest/cheating uneducated person.
