"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Qobuz has published an "AI charter" earlier this month. In it the French music streaming service declares a "zero-tolerance policy when it comes to AI-generated content" and promises "Detection and monitoring systems for AI-generated content"

Content that's AI assisted rather than "100% AI gen" will however continue to be permitted on the platform in the future:

We support AI as a creative tool for human artists (mixing, mastering, composition aid) when it serves an authentic artistic process.

They should explain why I was recommended a few AI artists (backed by random companies in Dubai or the USA) filled with slop music and slop cover art. One guy ("Pianaura") even recorded 15 albums last year. There is no way to report slop too. It seems that their system has many flaws.

At least they are making a statement in a good direction, IMO.

Meanwhile, Spotify has changed their terms for creators that any content submitted to their platform is subject to being used for derivative work, using "any current or future technology," essentially setting themselves up for creating even more AI slop music, directly from Spotify themselves, or literally anyone.

I'm hoping there will be significant backlash from this.
