This guy was arrested inside his own safe with a gun. He is a lunatic. He is also obviously trying to cash out somehow, even though since 2015 he himself claims to have no ties with Mega anymore and that it has been compromised.
Either way, Mega hasn't been good for piracy for ages, nor is it trust worthy for private data sharing.

The fact that Mega is still online after I founded it 13 years ago shows that the case against Megaupload was political, a total Hollywood overreach and the New Zealand Govt should be ashamed for still wanting to extradite me.

I briefly met him at Defcon years ago and got an immediate off putting vibe to say the least. Then I saw him get up and tell his unhinged life story which then lead to a pitch for some crypto bullshit. I wish I had saved the 60 or so seconds I spent talking to him.

I see him more like the Larry Flynt of file sharing. He's a piece of shit, but he's also fighting for the right side.
He's crazy, and therefore doing more harm than good in advocating for piracy.
His origin story is selling out his costumer base to a law offices and kicking of the mass persecution of small time pirates in Germany.
Dotcom is now effectively Musk's hanger-on of a somewhat insane type. He posts a lot of megalomaniac and incoherent right-wing stuff (and I mean incoherent even by right-wing standards), as seen here. He hasn't had anything to do with MEGA for many years, he's been in a sort of exile in New Zealand, and frankly he seems as if he's isolated and mentally deteriorating.

Hollywood like any other industry is just overwhelmingly greedy. Instead of getting a buck or two from everyone they want to get a hundred bucks from a portion of them…. While screwing basically everyone working on the project and funneling the proceeds into the hands of an extreme minority.
The rent seeking from subscriptions that has all but swallowed whole all media is disgusting. Physical media will be gone soon and we will be left with shitty bitrate renting.

Very interesting that he points out that a guy is Jewish, does not give good vibes. Ofc most of the things he's done don't give me good vibes either.
Anyway, I can't remember the last time I've used Mega, for anything. None of the cool sites use them, afaik. There's like a million better sites now, and the best stuff is in Russia, since they barely touch piracy sites. it's so often in a piracy sites lifecycle for them to start on a normal tld, get banned, move to a weird tld, get banned, then move to a cool foreign countries tld.
Definitely seems like an antisemitic jab, and yeah he way overestimates how much pirates use and care about Mega in this day and age.
Not surprising from a guy who bought a signed copy of Mein Kampf.

Back when I was in Jordan, I visited a music store. They had a big screen on the wall with Windows Explorer open with a huge catalog of .mp3s. You could choose anything and they would burn the CD for you. Everything was clean and tidy as you would expect for a shop in a central location. Made me aware of how much legislators work to protect the rights of those few companies that own the rights.
i don't know anything about this guy other than some big headlines a while ago about how some chode legally changed his name to "dotcom," which is...unbelievably fucking stupid. i get the feeling he was trying to be intimidating in this tweet on fucking twitter, but he's not. i don't really see this douchenozzle "humiliating" anyone. except maybe himself
