they're too busy looking at Tifa to notice the politics

It's great that there's no politics in a game that starts with...bombing a power plant...running on a substance......that is being drilled from the earth.........and damaging the planet............well shit

Don't forget the mega corporation that has an absolute monopoly

[–] Afaithfulnihilist@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A Shinra executive enables/allows the power plant bombing as cover for a staged terrorist attack that will wipe out huge amount of poor people and open up their sector for real estate redevelopment.

He sends his secret police out to hunt down witnesses and opposition but along the way finds out that the military has its own rabbithole of dark conspiracies and the whole world is caught up in the aftermath of unaccountable mega corporate covert ops and mad science clashing for how to most completely dominate or destroy the world.

The bad guys fail to take over the world but succeed in destroying it, but that doesn't mean the world goes away.

Plenty of people still have to live there and have to deal with the aftermath including widespread ecological contamination and horrifically unnatural disease. Somehow the corporation survives.

Americans playing Trails of Cold Steel: clueless haha, wouldn't it be terrible to live in an evil empire that spends a lot of money on the military and uses it to bully and annex weaker countries?

He couldn't name a single game that explicitly criticises Trump or ICE specifically. There are probably some small games on itch.io that have made $10 in revenue and that's it

"western specific" oh okay, so if we talked about eastern specific things like juche necromancy, maoist third worldism, stalinism, marxist-leninism, xi jinping thought, etc. etc. etc., would that be fine? catgirl-smug

juche necromancy game where as you play, it becomes increasingly clear that "killing" and "resurrecting" people is you doing completely normal personnel management so that they can take a regular ass vacation or have a bit of time out of the media spotlight.

Famously apolitical JRPG classics, like Final Fantasy IV where a nation uses air superiority to terrorize and plunder the rest of the world and you literally start the game by doing a war crime that the game calls out as a war crime

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

There’s like a billion anime where the squad of mechanized war machines are called “Tank Police” or “Mecha Cops” or some variant because Japan couldn’t really have a military and that was reflected in the anime.

So every garf-chan was a top-cop

I assure you that politics had nothing to do with this. No politic at all.

I love my apolitical JRPGs like Metaphor Refantazio.
