If your grandmother had wheels, she would be a bicycle.

[–] MadhuGururajan@programming.dev 27 points 3 days ago

not this argument again.

how the fuck do you know she won't be a motorcycle? Do you need a motor thats not your heart? Why doesn't she become a tire demon or a stool with wheels for sests?

[–] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If your mother had wheels, she'd be the city bus in Beijing.

Your mum's areolas look like mouldy soup.

Can you host images somewhere else than reddit? It's blocked(?) by some instances, I can't even see them without going to lemmy.world, or following the link to reddit. On reddit you can't open images in full size, literally the worst image host I can imagine.

Reuploaded to lemmy.zip:

(I won't comment on how much work was to create this screenshot. Classic r/mapporn)

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ngl, you have me curious how much work it took to make that screenshot.

  1. Go to this website or one of its clones: https://thetruesize.com/ If you search for "true size map" there a lot of similar websites
  2. Eyeball the countries
  3. Screenshot
  4. Post

It's like 5 minutes max, with some practice I think you can lower that to less than half minutes.

Or, as it's from reddit, I suspect its a repost bot, so just find the last time it was posted

Recreated something similar now:

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ohhh, it was easy. I thought it was going to be a long story. I was ready to get comfy!

[–] infeeeee@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I was sarcastic, nowadays you can rarely find interesting maps on r/mapporn, mostly similar very low effort posts and reposts.

And Berlin would be in fucking Utah... as someone who lives in Berlin, I strongly resent this notion.

[–] FrostyTheDoo@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Utah is actually one of the most beautiful states in the US! The people are a little odd, but very nice. Which was actually my experience in Germany as well, so maybe it's not far off ha

you have not actually lived there, have you. The people are very odd, not nice at all, violent if you upset them slightly, and the only beautiful parts are where the people aren't.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm sure they're nice if you're a white cishet Christian male.

[–] FrostyTheDoo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

And I am one of those 👍

[–] FrostyTheDoo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yes I've only visited, and every interaction I had was pleasant, but that's obviously a case study of 1. Didn't know Utah was such a violent place!

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah, it’s basically the same cultural niche. Haven’t you heard of Salt Lake City’s 24 hour club?

[–] glorkon@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Sorry if I'm mistaken or failing to detect your irony, but isn't Utah this highly conservative state, with a vast majority of the population being white (or Hispanic, which to me counts as "white but speaking Spanish") and where most people follow a crackpot religion which basically views fun things like sex, drugs, alcohol and homosexuality as a sin?

Comparing that to Berlin, a permissive, irreligious, hedonistic, multi-ethnic place, brimming with culture and open-minded people, seems rather far-fetched to me.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It was sarcasm, yes. There’s definitely no 24 hour club in SLC

If Paris were Los Angeles, the war in Ukraine would be near Memphis

not really. Kansas too would be under fire.

Like Dallas also would be

This is a good reminder to those who keep asking “why don’t people in the US do anything about this regime?” Well because people who voted against all this (including their representatives) live thousands of miles away from the asshole who did. Should I go burn down my representatives offices even though they voted aligned with my choices?

I think a better argument is that a lot of people ARE doing what they can, and that the regime is making it difficult to do so. Also, if being immersed in the River Styx of Online Discourse for the last ten years taught me anything, it's that trying to call someone out for (percieved or actual) inaction or mistakes does not work.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago (9 children)

"My country is really big therefore it's not my fault if nothing gets done about the regime that's fucking up my country."

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why aren’t those Russians stopping Putin? They’ve had like 20 years.

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 7 points 3 days ago

Because they didn't stop him 20 years ago.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"my country is really big and I do not have the physical ability, means, or resources to travel to where the problem is to effectively impose change"

Your comment is literally proving it's right, you're too stupid, ignorant, or stubborn to consider anything other than what allows you to continue spewing nonsense

Huh, I always thought the UK was much smaller.

[–] turboSnail@piefed.europe.pub 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It’s not the size, it’s how you use it.

Just for reference, the largest company that has existed so far was the Dutch East India Company. Didn’t come from a very large country either, but that company had its own navy and it even negotiated treaties with countries just like a sovereign nation would.

Um, you do know Russia is a neighbour of the US right ?

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 6 points 3 days ago

At least put Bordeaux where LA is.
