No stupid answers either, I just want your honest thoughts.

I assume the trickle truth'ing around Epstein files* and Trumps behavior is supposed to distract from the growth of surveillance, the mass production of modern war devices (drones etc), and the problematic growing addictions to phones, as well as (not so) slowly developing idiocracy due to that.

And therefor also distracting us from taking control of the things we can still change.

Please be kind, these are just my thoughts. I'm interested in yours as well.

*saying that because there isn't much new information, we already know there had been rape and sex trafficking and some more cruelty. so it's just bread crumbs thrown at us to look at it again even though we know whats going on

We are being distracted from the bigger picture.

The bigger picture being is, look at how much corruption is dominating us. We've been played, we're continually being played and it seemingly looks like we're always going to be played. The more time we take up to social media, to complain about something we absolutely disagree about with how things are ran and in hopes they 'read what they say'. Well, that's giving them more leverage because we're screaming into the void and only getting just virtual pats on the back.

And it's like, we KNOW what is wrong, we KNOW who is the problem and we KNOW exactly how everyone feels. But, we allow ourselves to be distracted by what? A Super Bowl half time performance? It's like we're all too busy looking for things to cope with than brainstorming how we're going to get ourselves out of this mess.

The more we choose to cope, the more we're allowing them to get even more of a stranglehold on us.

I'm really weary of the whole attitude of "we're being distracted from x". Like the comments on every awful thing the Trump admin does saying "what about the Epstein files".

Yes, the Epstein stuff is a big deal and they need to release those files. However, there's are litany of other shit going on that is also worthy of attention.

They're not distracting anyone from anything. They're flooding the zone. There's so much shit going on that opposition to any specific issue can't get any traction.

Is shit.

You're being distracted from actually doing something.

A constant stream of awful bullshit, right to your screen. The feeling of doing something by shouting into the abyss.

Trump doesn't care if you see pictures of him raping children or learn about all his corruption unless it is transformed into actual political action. Taking to the street, organizing, running for office, supporting those who do.

Everything is a distraction from action.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

This is the real goal, right here. To get individuals so bogged down by a controlled firehose of propaganda that we will all just keep working the daily grind for less and less because there's nothing we can do about it . . .

Yeah, no. That's total bullshit. We can each do something, and it only matters that we each start somewhere. A lot of little things add up, like you said. Don't give into the helplessness: there is meaning and action beyond it.

And conversely, don't give in to rage, because the opposite end of this elite stick is to delegitimize any growing movement by calling it the whining of the disgruntled and the vandalism of hooligans. There's no faster way to get your movement off the front page, shut down, and ignored by the world than giving into violence when provoked. Note all the non-US comments even on Lemmy that are trying to provoke Americans into fighting in the streets: it's not because they want us to win.

OP, you're on the right track. You're already seeing for yourself that it's just not adding up anymore. But like Cabbage above me said, don't stop there. Find whatever thing you can do to help, to be a part of change. It doesn't have to be great or massive, but find your niche. Look into what's going on already in your own community, and see what people who live near you are already doing. You'll find your part to play, and you'll be so glad you did.

If you're not sure where to start and you're in the US, look at what's happening near you:

Corruption.

This includes government officials, private industry and the general mass movement of money from the middle and upper middle classes to the multimillionaire and billionaire classes.

Ultimately, it’s always about money.

Rich people holding 99%.of everything and pitting us against each other. Most people have no idea about the scope of riches. We could all be much better.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago

There’s no “doing things as a distraction”

They’re just doing corrupt openly evil things in public, and at a high volume. And republicans and democrats are just letting it happen, like the Roman senate letting itself be usurped.

Climate catastrophe that will cause mass extinctions. This is my guess. Between Epstein and the wars going on around the world, nuclear powers, rising fascism, AI, and others, they are all distractions from this looming catastrophe coming.

[–] fiat_lux@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

The Epstein files obviously contain a lot of information about rape and trafficking, which is very understandably and rightly in the spotlight. But what the files also contain is very detailed information about exactly how our laws and financial systems are being actively exploited to maintain the power of a select few. That is something that is much harder to write a quick article about, by design, but we haven't even seen some of these names mentioned in the media:

  • de Rothschild (with a very illustrative diagram in EFTA01114424)
  • Thiel
  • Rockefeller
  • Murdoch
  • von Habsburg

And those are just individuals, not companies. We haven't heard anything about JP Morgan Chase, Sotheby's, Goldman Sachs... Or even the universities like Harvard.

You can't usually pull a single short damning quote from an email for them because it's not as simple as the horror of one person raping children, but it lays the foundation of how this horror was allowed to continue at such a large scale by so many people.

Its just the same abuser bullshit "deny, deny, deny". The wealthy have become degenerates and use their power and wealth to achieve any carnal desires they have while the rest of us break our backs making the world turn. They're just avoiding accountability again. Put them to the wall already and lets move on with making society better instead of chasing the profit dragon.

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Whatever product or service the US's huge payments to Israel are for.

Why are we sending money to them? What's the good or service being transacted?

Whatever that is, that's what they're distracting us from.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

The stock value of a human life is being speed run to a crash in every way imaginable. Empathy is being systemically and purposely weeded out of avenues to power, vice signaling is replacing virtue signaling, and parasites are held to higher esteem than builders.

The central theme is that everything in front of us on a daily basis is a thin fake veneer for a collapse that we're being conditioned to have no response to.

Everything is a distraction from everything else. I doubt any specific catastrophe is planned, particularly as a distraction, but the cumulative effect is deliberate. The faster they go and the more chaotic everything gets, the harder it is to stay focused to stop them. See Bannon’s “muzzle velocity” theory

Its not distractions. There are genuinely like a thousand terrible things all happening at once.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

What you're being distracted from is the fact that rape and sexual assault, especially of children is normal and accepted in our society. You may be confused by all the hate and demonetization pedophiles get, but like all rape, the status of the perpetrator matters most.

Until 1971, married men were immune from charges of raping their wives. And several States protected them after that. For every 100 rapes reported to the police, only 18 charges will be filed ^1^. And of course their are incompetent pigs and timid prosecutors. But it's also the public at large who won't convict rapists. (because nobody believes women)

Epstein wasn't hiding anything. And all those people around him knew what he was up to.

But forget about Epstein. What powerful men are snatching teenagers off the street today? Nobody cares.

The Epstein scandal is about embarrassing powerful men. Nobody gives a shit about raped little girls.

  1. Here is a reference to that figure, but for some reason, the referenced study isn't on the DOJ's website anymore.

The Hannibal Directive. Israel did a false flag to get Jewish people to go along with a genocide, and they either aren't getting it, or are well aware of it and go along with their supremists ideology.

Invading Mexico... The entire airspace around El Paso, TX is OFF limits for 10 days.

El Paso is right on the Mexican border. WTF is that all about?

Watch out Mexico!!

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Go look at the FAA map: https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=map_6_1087

There are like six of these all along the border.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Meaning? I'm correct? Or, it's normal?

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It is not normal. They are establishing no fly zones in the US directly adjacent to every major border city in Mexico. It certainly looks like corridors for air strikes, but who knows with these guys, it could just be morons screwing up their jobs too.

Short term restrictions are pretty normal and happen all the time. These are different.

[–] rhymeswithduck@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

They saw a party balloon, panicked, tried to shoot it down with lasers but failed to inform the FAA what they were doing (it might have even been the FAA doing it which is even more hilarious), so the FAA panicked again and shut down the airspace. Just pure incompetence all around.

[–] NachBarcelona@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Okay I need a source on this inane assertion.

No. I'm not adding you to my Top Secret "Signal" chat. I'm not as stupid as Hegseth.

Your ego is constantly distracting you with the illusion of the dream of the world in order to prevent you from noticing that you are not a separate self with a particular identity but pure awareness without attribute.

[–] NachBarcelona@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Put some vinegar on that salad.

[–] NachBarcelona@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You don't, you're pure awareness without attribute.

💩take this perfect dressing then instead.

Now I am too busy being distracted by terrible salad dressings to notice that I am pure awareness without attribute. 😟
