I'm in awe how on point Ukraine's public messaging has been throughout this war. They've been perfectly measured and poignant about everything they've said.

Zelenskiy in particular has acted and spoken without a single misstep through all the challenges thrown his way. It's impressive...

His internal politics is another matter, but he's the best leader Ukraine could've had when it comes to international perception. The fact that he still manages to placate Trump without losing it is worthy of the highest praise.

I remember, when the full scale invasion started, I basically thought "fuuuuck, and they're stuck with an actor for a president...."

And then he said "I need ammo, not a ride", which, at least to me, was probably the most powerful "table flip" moment in history.

But did he even say "thank you"?

The absolute best was the video that came out shortly after with a short cut of basically "thank you", "thank you", "thank you", "thank you", "thank you", "thank you" etc.

Apart from the stuff right before the full-scale invasion.

Also he's probably the only president in the world who called another leader a dumbass on twitter and got cheered lmao

Well, i’d say appointing his TV Producer business partner as head of Ukranian intelligence worked out swimmingly…

That's being a leader.

Not playing the victim, not complaining or raging about the IOC one bit. Just acceptance, and pointing out courage, with integrity.

Whatever our technofeudal future may be, I hope Zelensky and all of Ukraine make it into history books as an ideal to strive for. And not "leaders" crying like bullies on Twitter.

Now Trump's gonna want one.

"How many Ukrainians do I have to kill and photograph in order to get that thing?"

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

Having courage is more than having medals.

That's such a powerful idea, I nearly choked up.

Infinitely better and more honorable than all the olympic gold in the world. Slava Ukraini.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

The helmet with victims of occupation is not political it is humanist and should not be banned

Russia is banned from the Olympics, but an helmet is politically not okay for the Olympics?

Best laugh I've had in a couple of days.

Edit: Also directly after tearing up at the final Zelensky line: Having courage is more than having medals.
