I'm pretty sure Woody Allen did it first

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

Seinfeld followed it up

Came here to say this, glad someone already did

If they were made by a non-Jewish person they'd be the most antisemitic media since the Protocols of the Elders if Zion

I have a good pal that I met at my last job and we're still in touch. He lives in Belgium now and hates it. Anyway, he is Isreali because he was born there, he doesn't support it at all and left as soon as he could. He introduced me to Fiveish.

He is also literally the most interesting person to ever exist. He rode across Mongolia on horseback, he became a Buddhist monk and lived in a monestary for 2 years and I am.not even kidding was meditating under a waterfall when he realized this was no way to spend a life. Came to Canada and was a line cook for a while and now lives in Belgium. He's a comrade and a very well read and worldly one at that. And omg, his soups were genuine magic potions. He gave me the recipes but they have to be made by him to get just right. But holy fuck...his soups were sooooooooo good. His paprika potato one instantly fixed hangovers with magic.

This is an old genre. Its called Jewish Comedy, they just applied it to different genres, at least in the case of Uncut Gems, havent seen Marty Supreme

[–] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I choose to read the Book of Job as a Comedy, and the genre is indeed old.

Got a lot of mileage out of the book of job as an edgy atheist back in the day. It's really fucking funny. At the end when job is like "hey uh why did you do all this stuff to me?" and God is all "i unno fuck you that's why anyway here's a new wife or whatever"

Myself I love the concept of a Creator who attempts a just world but is hindered by their gambling addiction.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

If God has just admitted it was to win a bet I'd have way more respect but he doubled down and just flexed on job

A good example is also Darren Aronofsky's excellent Pi.

Also it's completely bonkers.

Really funny how Kevin O'Leary just plays himself in that movie too
