Do you like 80s cheesy half-comedy horror? Re-Animator, starring the man himself, Jeffrey Combs. The first two are loosely based on the Lovecraft story, the third is an original script and goes completely off the rails, but in a fun way.

Not a fan personally. Im a snob when it comes to comedy stuff typically.
Cabin in the woods
If you've never seen Cabin in the Woods and even slightly like the horror genre, do not read any more about it. That movie is absolutely the best if you just go in completely blind
This is the best scary movie for people who don't like scary movies.
Can recommend Color Out Of Space if you're the type that appreciates a bit of Nick Cage. It's Lovecraftian horror but somehow also has Tommy Chong in its cast.
And why not make it a more Cage-y by with Renfield and Longlegs? Throw in some Willy's Wonderland and you'll be golden.
8mm is one of my favorite thrillers with nic cage.
Love me some Cage
Poltergeist
I’ve made up my mind
Goodun
Hereditary and Anihilation
Both fantastic movies. Annihilation is the vibe I'm going for.
Otherwise The Thing and Alien.
You should watch that "Cars for Kids" commercial on repeat. Pretty sure it will give most people nightmares if watched enough times.

Post riffing off a previous post of mine about hauntings, I'm recommending the film Ravenous. Guy Pierce, Robert Carlyle, David Arquette.
It helps if you understand the Cree/Ojibway Wendigo Myth. A Wendigo is a malevolent spirit who can posess people, and turn them into insatiable cannibals.
Love me some wendigo
