Why is this a gendered thing?

The vortex of curiosity and sidetrackery does not discriminate.

If you keep clicking on the first linked word of every entry you are linked to, you always end up at the entry for Philosophy.

Because women can make gendered remarks about men in general and "the male brain," and no one cares. But if a man does the same thing about women, he's a misogynist asshole.

Like how if a man talks about something he's passionate about, someone says "stop mansplaining." But if a woman is talking about something and you don't listen intently, then you're sexist.

And the double-standard is somehow okay because "history" and "oppression" and yadda yadda, and because anyone who raises a concern about it is immediately labeled as a "red-pilled incel chud brainwashed by the manosphere."

But women throw around slogans like "gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss" as if that's the meaning of empowerment and egalitarianism. And then they'll go "wOmEn'S lIbErAtIoN iSn'T mEn'S oPpReSsIoN!!!1!1!" as if that's some obvious thing that everyone knows, and not a lesson that they apparently need to learn themselves.

I dont think falling down Wikipedia rabbit holes is a gendered thing. Wikipedia is just like that.

[–] MashedTech@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The good thing that happened to the internet. Having access to knowledge so easily you can fall into rabbit holes.

[–] abbiistabbii@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago

The (un)holy trinity of rabbit holes for me are Wikipedia, maps.nls.uk, and trove.

My wife thinks I'm the smartest man she has ever known. Meanwhile, I'm slapping my own head going, "This baby can fit so many Wikipedia articles in it."

He so smart, he thinks his wife thinks he is smart.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Suddenly feel empathy for that guy. I hope it works out for them in the end, but red flags.

[–] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Speaking of, today my dad threw me a wiki article about Clockwork Orange. Not the movie, the bri'ish smear campaign against politicians in 1974-75

As Peter Wright confirmed in his book Spycatcher, Wilson was the victim of a protracted, illegal campaign of destabilisation by a rogue element in the security services. Prompted by CIA fears that Wilson was a Soviet agent - put in place after the KGB had, the spooks believed, poisoned Hugh Gaitskell, the previous Labour leader - these MI5 men burgled the homes of the prime minister's aides, bugged their phones and spread black, anti-Wilson propaganda throughout the media. - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2006/mar/15/comment.labour1
