The HESA Shahed 136 (Persian: شاهد ۱۳۶, lit. 'Witness 136'), also known by its Russian designation Geran-2 (Russian: Герань-2, lit. 'Geranium-2'), is an Iranian-designed one-way attack drone, also referred to as a kamikaze drone or suicide drone, in the form of an autonomous pusher-propelled drone. It is designed and manufactured by the Iranian state-owned corporation HESA in association with Shahed Aviation Industries.

The munition is designed to attack ground targets from a distance. The drone is typically fired in multiples from a launch rack. The first public footage of the drone was released in December 2021. Russia has made much use of the Shahed 136/Geran-2 in the Russo-Ukrainian war, especially in strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure, and mass-produces its own version.

Description

The aircraft has a cropped delta-wing shape, with a central fuselage blending into the wings, which have vertical stabilizing rudders at the tips. The nose section contains a warhead estimated to weigh 30–50 kilograms (66–110 lb). An Iranian-made Mado MD-550 engine sits in the rear of the fuselage and drives a two-bladed pusher propeller. The MD-550 is reverse engineered from the Limbach L550E, a 550cc four-cylinder two-stroke petrol aircraft engine made in Germany. The munition is 3.5 metres (11 ft) long, with a wingspan of 2.5 metres (8.2 ft), flies at over 185 kilometres per hour (115 mph), and weighs about 200 kilograms (440 lb).[16] The drone's appearance resembles that of the Drohne-Anti-Radar (DAR) developed by Dornier Flugzeugwerke in Germany in the 1980s, but whether there was actual copying is an open question.

Its range has been estimated to be anywhere from between 970–1,500 km (600–930 mi) to as much as 2,000–2,500 km (1,200–1,600 mi). The U.S. Army unclassified worldwide equipment guide states that the Shahed 136 design supports an aerial reconnaissance option, although no cameras were noted in the Geran-2 in Russian service.

Electronics

The Shahed 136 navigates by a commercial-grade inertial guidance system, corrected by civilian GPS and GLONASS. December 2023 remains from the drones were found with SIMs and 4G modems of the type used in mobile phones.

Deployment

Because of the portability of the launch frame and drone assembly, the entire unit can be mounted on the back of any military or commercial truck. The aircraft is launched on rails at a slight upward angle with initial rocket launch assistance. The rocket is jettisoned immediately after launch, whereupon the drone's conventional piston engine takes over

Loitering munition

A loitering munition (LM) is a type of self-destructive unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a warhead that is typically designed to remotely loiter by a human operator using electro-optical targeting sensors or camera suite and data-link until a target is designated, then crash into it and detonate. Anti-radiation (anti-radar) loitering munitions are a type of loitering munition that employ either an anti-radiation seeker by itself or in tandem with an electro-optical targeting system to locate enemy radar by loitering and destroy it after detection. Common terms like suicide drone, kamikaze drone, or exploding drone are used for both loitering munition and one-way attack drones. They enable attacks against hidden targets that emerge for short periods without placing high-value platforms near the target area. Unlike many other types of munitions, their attacks can be changed mid-mission or aborted. Loitering munitions are typically aerial platforms, but include some autonomous undersea vehicles with similar characteristics.

Loitering weapons emerged in the 1980s for the suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD) role, and were deployed for SEAD by some military forces in the 1990s. In the 2000s, they were developed for additional roles, from long-range strikes and fire support to short-range tactical systems that fit in a backpack.

The makeup and effects crew must be really proud of their degloving technology considering they’ve done it twice now.

I think we will get our first frost of the year tomorrow so I went out to the garden in the rain to get some photos of my flowers before they all go to sleep for the winter.

Kinda noticed with looking at examples and guides for weathering gundam models that it tends to be based mostly around how the same methods used by plane and tank model guys. The thing is...a lot of these suits arent used on earth ever. Stuff like rust and dirt wouldnt happen in space. Now i'm looking into how wear and tear or battle damage does or might look in space, lotta denting mostly.

A bit of small-town drama from rural Guatemala. It’s an open secret that the athletics coach for the local athletics club is a pdf. He was in his late 20’s when he started coaching a 13 year old girl and at first it was just that. Then signs started to happen like him taking her shopping or calling each other frequently.

He’d been investigated a few times after people made calls but nothing came of it. I even once caught him calling her a pet name when I was a teen and laughed about it. She gave me a death glare in response.

Years later and the two are now married. Seen together frequently and everyone is disgusted by it but still cordial to him. A lot of that is because he’s produced some very good athletes for the country.

I like to bug my work pal about his rich parents. His mom received the Order of Canada for whatever she did (dude legit doesnt know what his mom did for a living) and his dad is an architect who designed a fucking shipyard (its a rectangle, great work). People with rich parents never ever think they have rich parents and they always have fucking weirdly formal relationships with them. Like not knowing what your mom's job was. He has never been inside a Wal Mart. He had never even heard of Giant Tiger (Canadian discount store chain) until he heard another co-workees brother worked their and was confused by the name. Today i was riffing on the first person to decide certain pointless rules of etiquette needed to be followed, like the first guy to decide thar having your elbows on the table was no good. Of course his parents told him not to eat with his elbows on the table. He then went on to explain he also used to not see the point in manners until he saw people without them, which was a hella snobby thing to say. I explained that I feel there is a major difference between manners and etiquette. Manners are things like chewing with your mouth full or going super hard on a burp and not covering your mouth, shit that matters. Not acting like you're in the French Nobility when dining on the scooby doo shaped alphaghettis. Elbow placement and stuff like that doesnt affect other people's meals and is therefore a Fake Rule, the world is full of those.

Apparently 'reaching across the table' was also a no-go in his household growing up and it was difficult to determine what distance counted. I was raised that you dont reach over other people's food or bey flop over your own to grab something that could be passed to you but that's just basic not eating like a toddler stuff, these complex rituals seem exhausting. Homie hsd to ask to be excused from the table.

They also take trips and expect him to not only go with them, but pay for it himself and apparently give him shit for 'not having a real job' cause he's a cook. Dude has a degree in geology but you cant get a non evil job with that degree rn, its all full. Like, it seems that even though his family has im certain millions of dollars more than me, he has less of a safety net and more financial responsibility in that he has to spend money on international trips to appease his family.

My family knows the door shut right after they got the goods and it's thanks to luck and unions they got where they are. They help my underpaid and overcharge ass out all the damn time, cause they also think its absolutely fucked up that someone working full time, especially at a few bucks over minimim wage and with tips wouldn't ever be able to keep up with the bottom.line cost of living without having a very spartan existence. They have bankrolled so much of my recent Gundam model hobby cause they love that im good at art stuff. Im good at drawing cause when I took an interest as a toddler my mom would sneak stacks of printer paper home for me. We play Mario Kart together when I visit and we played multi-player games together ever since my first game console. I could not imagine living like he does and having that kind of relationship with your parents. I recall seeing it when going to richer kids houses as a child as well. I cannot imagine for the life of me having dinner with my folks and then telling me to take my elbows off the table. I would assume they were joking and either work with the bit or laugh and tell em to piss off. He is 36 and apparently they still tell him not to swear when he does. Im a lifelong kitchen worker and my dad drove a forklift for the post office. When we play video games together the insults we direct towards Mario characters are genuinely uncalled for but we're doing it cause we all (especially my mom) think its funny to call Donkey Kong a "shit brained banana fucker" when he wins a mini game or something. Honestly last time we hung out i was kinda thinking he was throwing 'fuck' into sentences even more than I do. I really don't get how you live with not being able to relax around your immediate family and feel the need to maintain all these weird social protocols. Also based om my childhood you would always get the worst food wjen you were there fore dinner. Incandescent recall a rich friend in second grade, after hanging out and trying to play age of mythology but being too 8 years old to grasp it, we got spaghetti for supper. It was just canned sauce and noodles. My mom, makes an amazing spaghetti bolognaise and does a TVP batch for me when shes making a bunch. She has to make an industrial amoint and freeze a lot and give some to my extended family cause her spaghetti game is that strong. My dad handled a lot of cooking as well and had his own skills, my mom was good at sauces and pastas amd sruff, my dad had a good fry game. Now thst im a pro I cook for them a lot but they also pay attention to what im doing, learn from it and after going vegsn have learned no animal stuff from me and now tvp and seitan are part of their rotation cause they like it. This guy's parents dont consider cooking a real job. Both of our folks eat at our work semi regularly, mine did before I was working there. Mine tip 30% when they come, theirs tip 12. His normal is so different from mine and seems worse

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 2 points 1 hour ago

Incandescent Recall is a pretty cool band name.

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 8 points 4 hours ago

I'd describe using linux as just using a computer like normal but the vibes are better. I was installing a fitgirl repack last night and the fans whirred up to about the same level as when the computer is just idling with Windows. The fans were up but at least I knew why.

Running Windows is like walking into a room after people have just had a massive argument. Vibes are fucked but you don't know why. The fans are going so hard with Windows just on and you're asking your computer, 'hey, what's going on in there, huh?'

I think I like my ironic media when it braves to be authentic from time to time, like how shadows need light to contrast having a meta story wrap on to the other side to say something sincere makes it just the more sweeter. I don't find the opposite true tho, if my sincere media starts being a little ironic then I start to worry ngl. Ironic media as a whole I just related it to popular things that are copied over and over again with no soul.

I kind of had a thing like this happen at my highschool for a couple of years.

[CW: mentions of CSA kind of]

There was a PE teacher at the other highschool in town called Murray Jones that invited kids to his place to drink and hang out. Turns out he hid a camera in a pot plant in his toilet to record them.

Once word got out, the term 'Murray' started being used to describe pedophilia and adjacent behaviour. Someone would be like, 'Did you hear that guy's going out with someone from year 7' and the response would be 'What a murray removed.'

Then the term 'murray' just started being used to describe anything you didn't like. Instead of saying 'that's fucked' you'd say 'that's murray'. Like if a teacher said you'd have to stay back 10 minutes during lunch the response would be 'Miss, that's murray.'

It got to the point our school had to ban saying 'murray' or 'Murray Jones' in general.

A couple weeks ago I got 16 mangoes for 10 dollars, today at the same place I got 14 of 16 dollars

[–] FidelChadstro@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think I've ever bought more than 2 mangoes at a time. Do you eat 2 a day or something?

[–] Blockocheese@hexbear.net 4 points 5 hours ago

I bought them by the case so it was just however many they had in each case but they also ripen at different rates so I eat them over the course of a few days

I really do love mangoes, especially mango sticky rice so when they are ripe ill eat as many as I can

its really funny to me that, no one is really saying much about the other leftist influencers who went to cuba maskless, except for the one who decided to blame it on their adhd and get mad at the concept of masking, thus having it blow up in their face. 🤔

okay not gonna lie, I'm hyped for episode 5 (expecting to be disappointed) of Invincible but episode 4 was like, jesus, the writers really wanted to give as many lines of (bad) dialogue to some really boring melodramatic characters (relative to the rest of the cast) as they could. they could have made the entire episode's plotline like 15 minutes

I wonder if anyone in history came up with the finger guns gesture before the invention of guns, knowing only that it felt good to do

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 5 points 9 hours ago

You ever done the finger bow and arrow?
