Even my father has never said something that awesome to me. I'm pretty sure that's because my old man's a fucking bastard, but still, Thanks Satan. <3

Well, I’m not your dad, but I’m proud of you. You’ve made it yet another day. Just remember that when things seem hard, you’ve survived every worst day so far. No reason to think you can’t get through whatever you’re dealing with now.

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Thanks. What doesn't kill me makes me stranger.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Thank you. I needed to hear that.

That's because the seven tenents don't ask for blind loyalty to a god that most likely doesn't exist. Its more about freedom, reason and empathy.

I One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

V Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

VI People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

If only....

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 1 points 3 days ago

that’s from the satanic temple though… that has very little to do with religion at all. the tenants aren’t from any kind of religious thing

They’re trying to make every single “believe in yourself” message that people have ever heard in pop culture seem like the whispering of Satan. Think: Luke in Star Wars turning off his targeting computer.

They want all of that to feel wrong to kids. Because they are trying to raise a flock of subservient subjects. Christianity is like Monarchy for the mind. It calls on you to kneel, not to know, dare, strive, find out. Nope. Just kneel.

That sounds fucking satanic to me.

they have successfully convinced my otherwise genius brother that his inner voice is god. he thinks he has aphantasia, despite him describing his dreams and imagination to me earlier in life. he just feels left out because he doesn't have anything broken, not even bad vision or a single godsdamned cavity and i spent most of my 20s in the hospital. well, didn't have anything broken.

that is terrifying

[–] Shortstack@reddthat.com 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I just gotta say, that is wild. Does your brother have munchausen syndrome? He's already jealous of you for getting attention from having health problems, it's just the next step down that path

i cannot begin to think of what is wrong with him and his wife without writing a long list of grievances. short version, when we were growing up, our parents kep me happily in his shadow. as adults, even with my disability I've done a hell of a lot more than him (the trick was to stop begging for parental approval) and i'm kind of worried i'm living the life he wanted because he's always hated kids and has 7 (good job SIL).

i only have like 500 bucks to my name, some video game consoles, a trike, and an amazing wife. rejected for disability because i spent too much time trying to get a degree and job and provide for myself. but hey, we have a hell of a lot of fun.

Monarchy for the mind

That's a good phrase for it.

The more you think about it, the more you come to see that satan is actually the good guy, and God is the one doing all the evil. Think about it, satan rebelled to give adam and eve free choice. God said "Holy shit, you eat my apple. I am kicking you out of paradise and cursing all your decendants for eternity. And by the way, since I am omnipotent and all seeing, I knew you would do that when I made you and when I told you not to. " I mean it's pretty clear who is evil in that story.

[–] NostraDavid@programming.dev 3 points 3 days ago

Holy shit, you eat my apple

Just a fruit, not specifically an apple.

[–] justsomeguy@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Makes creature and gives it irresistible urge to hit itself. Says "LOL stop hitting yourself" -god

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago

It's pronounced Sah-teen.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

The way I see it, no fair and just deity would ever tell you to believe in them before yourself. Believing in them before yourself is the kinda language narcissistic predators use to ensnare people.

So, is the ad trying to paint Jesus as a narcissist? Not intentionally, but damn do they do a horrific job of trying to relate to probably a massive chunk of people, moreso than those who are supposed to relate to it.

I also refuse to believe their is a fair and just deity who would give you a single glance if you don't believe in yourself first and foremost.

[–] bampop@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

That's the problem with monotheism. At least with polytheism you're allowed to acknowledge that the gods are assholes, you don't have to pretend Zeus is the good guy and Prometheus is the bad guy.

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Am I a figment to you, Baby Jesus?

[–] Trex202@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

He was a grown man! He had a beard!

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago

My Grammy Trudy had a beard and she was no grown man.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Without Satan, God would've kept pervily watching naked Adam and Eve for eternity, potentially.

Who's to say he's not creeping on you right now

[–] AyuTsukasa@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago

What an insane message to say belive in Jesus instead of yourself 🙃

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Satan probably whispers “Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering

[–] __lone_eagle___@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

I told you he has schizo 🤧, Nobody listened.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I do not think this is a Christian ad.

The Christian message is basically “be better through Christ.” The Satanist message is basically “none of this shit is real, so be better for yourself.” Christians say the Devil wants to tempt you to corrupt you.

It’s more likely an ad for The Satanic Church or The Satanic Temple but with the logo changed.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

While I appreciate this instinct to assume the best, you should really check before you make a comment like this. This comes from a piece of shit Baptist preacher. He likes to preach about spiritual warfare. A lot of people deserve the benefit of the doubt, evangelicals are not among them.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Just Google the details in the image.

Matt Smethurst is a Christian pastor.

“Our portion” is a Christian concept - in this case probably the name of some organization but it’s named after the Christian idiom. This is in all likelihood the name of the organization that created the ad.

Why would the Satanic Church place any of that in one of their ads?
