He is a hooman, he wants to use the hooman door like any civilized person. Stop demeaning her by making her use the cat door.

It's going to fly over a lot of people's heads.

Haha, that's exactly what ours does at 3 to 4 am in the night/morning. But nobody hears his lamentations.

(and yes he has an vip entrance which he does know well)

“I’m a cat. I don’t use the side entrance like some commoner, and my silly humans need to be reminded of this fact rather frequently. Do be a good fellow and ring that doorbell for me nice and long, would you? There’s a good lad.”

My cat goes in and out through the doggy door for the last 3 years but still hasn't gotten over the fact she has to push it with her head. She's figured out how to bat it with her paw just right then slip in sideways so as not to hit hear precious head. But she would never do this. She rarely even comes to us when beckoned while inside, only she decides when we get to see her. Outside? She won't come anywhere near me. I hate to think of what she went through before we rescued her, she's so skittish but so loving when she allows.

Quite some time ago my family had rescued an orange bundle of nerves, who was also abused, as far as we knew. And much the same, he was very loving as long as things were very calm.

The open window is right next to the patio door. Still everyday, "LET ME IN! LEEEEETTTT ME IIIIINNNNNNNNNN!"

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The real problem is cat being outside in the first place

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

The folks below arguing that the abundance of extra cats out in the wild from humans doesn’t have an impact have real “the oil in the earth is unlimited” energy

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 2 points 12 hours ago

I think they just don't like cats very much. Or any animals.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

She probably asked to, they like to wander in and out of the human caves as they please

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe -2 points 21 hours ago (3 children)

I'm sure they like being alive more, but sure

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

I assume local birds and rodent population also likes being alive and not getting attacked by a cat.

I’d rather risk it in the world than never be allowed to leave my house, despite it being safer there.

That said, the wildlife-murdering concern is a real one. My cats are porch cats who hang out with me when I’m working from the patio table or doing non-loud landscaping things, then follow me in after, and nobody dies.

It's not even just wildlife. My sister was attacked by the neighbour's cat while she was playing in our back garden as a toddler. She still has scars under her lips.

People letting their pet cats loose is just as bad as dog owners doing the same.

You also are not a cat. Don't pretend you know what's best for animals by anthropomorphising them

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

You are literally doing that tho, thinking you know whats best for the cat

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 4 points 14 hours ago

I basing my assumptions on actual studies on cats' life expectancy and livelihood, not on pretending to be one

8 year old me: That note is a clear invitation to knock and run

It just reminded me of this good old post:

People train dogs. Cats train people.

[–] Angrydeuce@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

I read somewhere that the reason cats are so fickle is that they've been much more recently domesticated compared to dogs

my kitty crossed over 10 years ago now, but I served her faithfully for nearly 20 years. her behavior was atrocious and she whined for food like you wouldn't believe but I still miss her and her five pointy ends a ton lol

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

Humans are a dog's gods, and a cat's staff.
