Genociding Palestinians: I sleep

Starting a war that slightly affects Western economies: Real shit

[–] PurrLure@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

What interesting timing... I'd be more surprised if AOC didn't become the next Nancy Pelosi in our lifetimes.

And don't accuse me of latheing that into existence later, I think deep down inside most of can see bits of Pelosi's neoliberalism in her.

Inb4 she gets asked if she's a capitalist or not and giggles out a "Well of course I am sweatie. This is a capitalist party after all." AyyyyyOC

I'll believe it when I see it, it's easy to say things, in fact it's even free

social-democracy

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 62 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I like this. Even if she's re-triangulating because of advisors telling her no one likes Israel right now, that's a great improvement on where the common citizen of the US is going. This war may have done even more damage to the reputation of Israel than we even thought.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago

Literally pushing her left.

I am on board with electoralism if it yields results.

Let's see some results.

Pressure got to her. Sad that it had to get so unignorably awful to get to this point, but so it goes.

Watching the 2028 field slowly metabolize the new world order - Israel is the pariah on the back-foot and Iran is the regional hegemon with international legitimacy - is going to be fascinating. I wonder who flips on Israel last, and who will go down with the ship.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 51 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I wonder who flips on Israel last, and who will go down with the ship.

Internationally: Germany

Domestic US: The DNC

Internationally: Germany

[–] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

As much as the meme is there, thr actual last to flip will be ukraine, which is currently the world's most fascist state

[–] Fossifoo@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not so sure. We get the right of Israel to exist, it's complicated and "never again" (and now shut up, it's all over) drilled into our heads from a very young age and even have it in our law.

Ukraine might be more fascist currently but this will also mean they side with straight racists earlier. Liberal denialism is a much stronger beast to get rid of.

[–] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think the german state will get touchy about the subject and decide to not touch it to prevent domestic discontent. Because if the price to maintain a pro-zionism stance is to shake people's faith in liberalism, they'll start having second thoughts. This isn't 2023 anymore. In 2026 the zionist pr is at all time low, and the oil crisis will make it much much worse.

[–] Fossifoo@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

I think the most you will get out of any liberal politician in Germany is "both sides". See the recent debate about a lukewarm antizionist position of a single state-chapter of Die Linke which lead to immediate massive backlash (and row back). Pro-zionism is the absolute default standing of German society at large. I don't see that changing, even if they managed to completely destroy Iran and push through the Bigger-Israel plan.

[–] WalleyeWarrior@midwest.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idk because they view Israel as their main competitor for Western arms. They were massively butthurt when the Gaza drive went full Warsaw Uprising because the US cut weapons shipments to send them to Israel.

[–] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Ukraine is currently prividing aid to the gulf states. As much as they don't like being short on weapons, the zelensky regime has a huge incentive to keep publically supporting isr*el given how much they are reliant on the US and EU.

Apparently Nat DSA also "randomly" sent chapter leads a reminder that the anti-zionism resolution did pass and they aren't afraid to use it if pressed. NYCDSA leads tend to be in close comms with their electeds so not sure if that played into it.

Edit: Though calling it now if DSA splits it will be over at 2028 Presidential run for AOC. Arguments over this endorsement we're getting ugly and only calmed down a bit because she's decided to do this.

Some are still a bit peeved because obviously this is about 3 years too late, she constantly condescended members asking for similar previously, also she ducked the other demands to actually form an internal slate and start endorsing other DSA members with regularity and act in a unified parliamentarian way.

Also the Right of DSA suddenly pretending she's always been anti-Israel moments after this drop has had arguments continue lol.

Only took a few hundred thousand corpses. I spit on this turn. “So-called” girl you called them that!

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 3 points 20 hours ago

Someone must have killed her and replaced her with a body double. That's the only way people ever evolve on this issue.

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 62 points 1 day ago

Retriangulating...

[–] lurker_supreme@hexbear.net 68 points 1 day ago (1 children)

im crossing my fingers and hoping she can make this pathetic, late stand because israel wont exist soon

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Realistically, she probably has insider info that Gaza and Iran won't exist soon. doomjaknuke

*until a Democrat is president

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 39 points 1 day ago (4 children)

her voting record is much better than her communication. in terms of her wielding of power, her rhetoric appears to be more disingenuous than her voting, supposing that being one of the few hundred people that get their opinion directly represented and counted within the bourgeois governance is more materially impactful than the stuff she says.

[–] fannin@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Her voting record still sucks, but you're right that it's better than her words. I don't understand the why of it.

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

i think it's very simple actually. she has basic personal principles that are fundamentally centered on center-left policy including a dim view on imperialism - this explains her voting record. she is incredibly cowardly about getting yelled at by interest groups that rile up internet posters - this explains her horrible communications trying to placate liberals and zionists.

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I can't respect a coward. She's still cancelled for Zionism. If she heel turns and publicly advocates the US invade Israel maybe I'll vote for her presidential run but it'll take that to win me over.

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am not asking you to believe in something I don't, for whatever that's worth. I'm a proud PSL voooter.

That is a very strange combination. Plenty of politicians who lie and say they'll be good on issues but ultimately aren't, I can't really think of any who say they'll do the shit thing but actually end up not being as bad as they say they are.

[–] red_stapler@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

That's pretty smart because libs care more about sound bytes than voting records.

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Good point. I'd argue that as someone who has such a large platform, her rhetoric is almost or equally as important as her voting record.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

as one member in a 435 seat congress, and that isn't even the whole legislature, her vote means almost nothing as far as affecting change.

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

She triangulates for twitter. And twitter fucking suckd

[–] limer@lemmy.ml 30 points 1 day ago

I’m very glad her focus groups and advisors recommended this

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 49 points 1 day ago

She's not a 2028 contender anymore.

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

You never know. The Dems might remember they can just lie. Incredible for how much they love Obama that they can't seem to understand that if you're going to say some bullshit you don't mean, might as well make it sound good.

AOC will only vote to fund arms for Greater Israel, not plain old israel.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

President AOC goes on Pod Save America.

"You've received tremendous and in our opinion toxic hostility from the far left soon after your inauguration. One of the many things they attack you regularly on is Greater Israel."

"To begin with - good governance requires hard choices. I need enough of the GOP to be on board to pass my agenda. That's reality. As for Greater Israel - it has a right to defend itself. My Support Greater Israel bill is an emergency military funding package of $250 billion that—.

"So - not just defense."

"That is correct. Israel existed in a dangerous neighborhood. Greater Israel exits in a very dangerous neighborhood as such..."

[–] jack@hexbear.net 42 points 1 day ago

That's good
