and a whole bunch of countries in Africa?

jesse-wtf who could this moron possibly be referring to when they talk about African imperialism?

[–] swelter_spark@reddthat.com 4 points 6 days ago

This was my first thought.

Probably thinks "imperialism" is when white settler colonies are destroyed.

I was just gonna quote that and be like "ok name 1"

The only one I can think of off-hand is South Africa like 50ish years ago. And even that was still Europeans doing settler colonialism.

Unless they think every war is imperialism.

Yea, they are liberals going based entirely on vibes, so Russia is doing an imperialism in Ukraine and China is doing an imperialism with Taiwan, but the US is just spreading freedom when it maintains 750 bases in 80 countries.

yeah he's definitely "thinking" about sudan and/or darfur (and/or possibly niger?) and maybe heard someone in the news saying "what about sudan" when iran was mentioned. so he's thinking sudan is doing an imperialism against itself i guess.

What fascists hate NATO? Last time I checked, there were fascists in it.

[–] Lenins_Dumbbell@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Didn't NATO have actual Nazis in chairman position?

[–] 9skyguy0@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

Adolf Heusinger

Only the libertarians who would rather have their private military than an alliance with the Europeans and Canadians.

Some of the alt-right isolationist soft power nonbelievers are loudly anti-NATO, but only because they don't understand that it's actually an imperialist tool.

Same way they dismantled USAID because they hate the concept of welfare and didn't realize it was a covert regime change tool

The definition of modern "centre-left"/"social democratic" politics. Call yourself a leftist, use the colour red a lot, claim to feel an affinity for the working class, claim to believe in democracy and human rights.

But fundamentally you still support the power structures which uphold capitalism and western hegemony. Case in point, NATO.

This way you can claim all the social prestige that comes with labelling yourself as a leftist lover of peace, equality, and fairness without having to actually commit to anything too radical which makes you uncomfortable.

It's plastic socialism. Legitimate socialist politics do not demand support for NATO.
