i get this is c/lemmyshitpost, but there is nothing here that screams shitpost, and this is not how antibiotics work and it's not how they are prescribed.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 11 points 21 hours ago

And one of these is an antifungal, not an antibiotic.

[–] hypnicjerk@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

never a good look when the shitpost sub upvotes "informative" slop

Life hack: use the one your doctor prescribes.

[–] tourist@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Life hack: use more than one, at the same time, arbitrarily, whenever you feel like it, unprescribed

.please don't actually do that

Whatever you have, treat it with horse dewormer and yelling at vulnerable population groups

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

Trans people want to steal your dewormer!!! They want all the appley goodness to themselves!

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Unless you're allergic, in which case remind them.

I've been prescribed meds I'm allergic to way too often.

[–] Hapankaali@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

Really? Seems I can't step a millimetre in a doctor's office without them asking if I'm allergic to anything (turns out that being allergic to stupidity isn't an issue when it comes to medical treatment).

[–] DeadDigger@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago

I got meds that I previously explicitly said I am allergic too twice. I have food allergies and good meds with this food stuff in them 8 times now in the last 10 years

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 16 hours ago

Seems I can't step a millimetre in a doctor's office

Correct. That would likely require extreme if not downright superhuman motor control, concentration, and patience.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

And I can't get surgery without having to stop them from prescribing me something I already told them I'm allergic to

Antibiotics are prescribed on a case by case basis and aren't only designed for specific infections, I've been prescribed Levofloxacin and Doxycycline before for severe sinus infections.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 9 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Amoxicillin is used for way more than the examples shown - UTIs, dental infection, stomach ulcers, even Lyme disease. That's the main one I know.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 0 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

It says "broad spectrum"; while listing a few examples... what'd you want it to list every single thing it covers? 'Broad' means wide variety.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 1 points 19 hours ago

Amoxicillin is up there twice. Once for "broad spectrum". The other seems to only be for ear, nose and sinus infections.

The graphic is shit and misleading.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

What's Pemicillin? Never heard of that one before. /s

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

You’ll note that the common cold, norovirus, and influenza aren’t listed. Don’t ask for antibiotics.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 1 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

People often confuse viral infections as bacterial infection... instead one would require anti-viral. I'm sure it's just people not knowing what 'biotic' is referencing.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 7 hours ago

Yeah also generic anti-virals don't exist like they do as antibiotics. There's no cure for the common cold.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 19 hours ago

I don’t think it’s that deep. “I feel ill. Give me pill” and the doctor give something that cures syphilis, so it must be good.

Cipro is brutal. Last time I took it 2 days in I felt like my tendons were disintegrating. I couldn’t even pour myself a cup of coffee without crying.

I was able to take it a couple times before without too much issue, but Jesus it doesn’t play around.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 2 points 21 hours ago

Talk to your doctor before taking ciprofloxacin if you or family have EDS. It can do a number on your tendons
