Donald Trump will not attend his eldest son’s wedding, reportedly taking place in the Bahamas this weekend.

After telling reporters Thursday he was going to “try to make” the intimate ceremony between Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson, but that it was “not good timing” because of the Iran war, Trump confirmed he won’t attend.

“He’d like me to go,” Trump said. “I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.’”

“That’s one I can’t win on,” Trump said in the Oval Office when asked if he planned to attend his eldest son’s wedding. “If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed by the fake news, of course.”

Nearly 12 weeks into the Iran war, Trump is facing record-low approval ratings amid the public’s growing discontent over the high cost of gasoline, groceries and other everyday expenses – all impacted by the president’s war in the Middle East.

“It’s not good for me” to a son’s wedding.

Spoken like a true narcissist

I’d almost feel bad for them all being raised by generations of narcissists if they weren’t all falling so willfully easily into the narcissistic hole themselves.

Of all the things the buffoon does that he rightly gets killed for, taking time off to go to his son’s wedding isn’t one of them.

It’s way worse that you’re skipping it bud

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 98 points 3 days ago

He probably has to stay close to the white house for medical reasons.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 53 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Reminds me of when they released that voice-mail in the run up to the 2020 election to try to smear Biden. You could feel Biden's compassion in the voice-mail. The right just doesn't understand what that is or thinks it's a weakness.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 23 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Can confirm. Grew up in a conservative household. Fathers showing empathy to their children was a completely foreign concept.

In some ways I'm still fucked up for life from that. So many healthy perspectives and behaviors that will simply never come naturally to me. The formative years of cognitive development are important.

My parents have learned a lot since then, so even though it was really hard for me to forgive them and took many years, they're still in my life and I'm grateful for them. But to this day I'm still unable to talk about my feelings or really even anything remotely important to me with them. It's just basic pleasantries and simple observations, and even then I have to be really careful and overthink how I phrase it, still walking in eggshells to keep the peace. And yes, that is a drastic improvement over how it used to be.

I thought he was implying that going to another location would drastically increase his chances of conditions incompatible with existence.

[–] kurmudgeon@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

There's no money in it for him

100% chance he goes golfing this weekend.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago

Those golf courses aren't going to play themselves

[–] i_am_not_a_robot@discuss.tchncs.de 62 points 3 days ago (3 children)

He has time to golf but not time for his child's wedding.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 32 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Thats what i dont get.

Fly in on the big chopper, someone says "i do", and he flies off again. Less time than it takes him to take a shit.

He's making a bigger deal out of it by not attending.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's a good point: at first glance it sounds like a big deal because it's "international travel," but the Bahamas are basically right next to mar-a-lago anyway so (depending exactly which island the wedding is on) it probably actually is within chopper distance.

[–] Weirdfish@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

He's the commander in chief and has access to Marine One and the entire Navy. This is not a logistics problem.

He’s making it about himself. He gets off on that.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 23 points 3 days ago

Not the sort of child wedding that interests him.

LoL. Only Trump can find his douchebag son's wedding a no-win. Christian values yo.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 43 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Weird that the non-war that’s now past the sixty day limit without congressional approval is still taking up his time.

[–] Corngood@lemmy.ml 13 points 3 days ago

The party of family values, people

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago

I take comfort and occasional joy at the knowledge that these people are small and miserable.

[–] chilldrivenspade@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

i really enjoy his reason for why he doesn’t want to go. i hope he maintains that level of trepidation for the rest of his life. for our morale.

[–] bluefootedbooby@sopuli.xyz 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Do we think he started this war just to get out of this wedding? 🤔

If it's a no-win either way, why not do the honorable thing and go to your son's wedding... nevermind I forgot who we were talking about

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

“If I do attend, I get killed.

I think he meant that literally.

[–] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

More reasons to go.

How easy would have been to spin it as "I'll risk everybody by being there".

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

There is not a single cell in his disgusting body that would even remotely contemplate that.

[–] FanciestPants@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

What about Biden? He's not going to Don Jr's wedding either. Why isnt the media reporting on that?

[–] Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I mean I guess he kinda is in a no-win situation, on the other hand it's a no-win situation of his own making. He chose to go in on Iran, now he can suffer the consequences of that.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 3 days ago

Nah, iran will be done right after the wedding is over, this wasn't a distraction from Epstein, it was a ruse to get out of the wedding.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Even with the war, he would get a pass from the majority of the public for going to his kids wedding.

Although, now that he said he was going to skip, and he referred to his first born son as “someone he’s known for a long time,” he’s going to get roasted either way.

The no-win situation was caused by his inability to show affection to anyone other than himself.

He could literally fly there for a couple hours, and fly back. I wouldn't even be THAT upset at the cost, but at least he would resemble a human being for a change.

[–] CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 days ago

“I’d get killed if I do, killed if I don’t…”

So all things being equal… he’d prefer to ignore his kid and eat McDonald’s.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He did not get awarded a nobel peace prize.

Sure enough he'll get the dad of the year award instead

[–] Kaput@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

FIFA dad of the week award

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 20 points 3 days ago

“I very much wanted to be with my family but I was told all the attendees would be 18 and over”

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

It's nice to know that he cares as much for us as he does his own son.... kinda touching really.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 5 points 3 days ago

Such a burn. You know the bride was all excited to have a White House wedding, and they had to tell her that the optics would be bad. But at least the President will be at her wedding, and she'll be able to tell her children and grandchildren about it, right? Nah, he's got better things to do. Does he even know her name? Or is she just "the new one?"

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Translation: I'm getting infusions and other top-tier medical care at the moment sorry, still recovering from China

right? If he could go to China he could sure attend his son's wedding? It appears there's been a decline in health recently

i'm so sad

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Aw, don't be sad. It's possible that he has a stroke and dies in a really funny circumstance, like falling down an up escalator.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Won't matter. He's invincible. Shit just rolls off him and onto the Democrats. This is the media's doing.

For not four.

[–] chilldrivenspade@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

i think trump should build a bunker and just stay in it until he dies of whatever festering STD, dementia, or other health ailment he earned. for security.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's the Kobayashi-Marriage scenario.

[–] FoolishObserver@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Ivanka already had RSVP'd with her Plus One, anyways (and it wasn't him!!!)

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

He’s been to weddings before. They’re boring.

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)
