These people aren't your friends

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 28 minutes ago

So the library leadership cut an exception for themselves, probably.

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 18 points 9 hours ago

Study shots it is then, got it.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I had a 6 AM start microbiology lab. In order to get myself going, I brought a bottle of wine carefully poured into a bottle of Gatorade.

I fucking loved that class.

Also our TA was a smoke show.

So you can't crack a cold one to relax but getting shitfaced is absolutely fine?

Where do I sign up?

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The cracking bit is the issue, they don’t want a beer volcano. Vodka isn’t carbonated.

[–] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 47 minutes ago

Vodka isn’t carbonated.

Usually at least. Big Clive did put some in the sodastream https://youtube.com/watch?v=8kK-QUjOl0Q

[–] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 4 points 8 hours ago

It's a plot against the Inebriati.

Well so long as I can have my study whiskey

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 80 points 16 hours ago (7 children)

This message does not apply to hard liquors.

I’m very curious as to why, but I won’t argue.

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

I assumed it's because the tenured faculty come in to do their research with a pocket flask.

[–] Phoenix3875@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago

Duh, obviously you need hard liquor for hard study. It's pretty hard.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 12 points 11 hours ago

There's other good speculation on the reasoning but I wonder if it's due to the younger staff put in charge of posting this notice. Maybe they pestered management about the specific reasoning until they determined that hard liquor did not meet the provided definition of restricted items, then added the last sentence as a form of protest.

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

They have a resealable top. The library is most likely concerned about spills. Most of them have a no cans policy.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 14 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Beer dries sticky, does hard liquor dry out clean? It's mostly water and alcohol so it might be better

[–] leftascenter@jlai.lu 8 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Grain Vodka is the only one that leaves no traces. I knew a bartender who would clean his customer's glasses with vodka when he saw they were dirty.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

😅 i do most of my cleaning with alcohol. Is that not good?

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Just don’t use it on screens.

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 5 points 8 hours ago

For anyone wondering as to the reason: alcohol can ruin the anti-glare coating on matte displays.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Nonsense. My windows look gorgeous.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 9 points 15 hours ago

Generally relatively clean, though flavored liquors may contain sugar and most liqueurs do.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 24 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Opening cans is very distracting.

[–] areakode@riskeratspizza.com 9 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

What about a bottle in a paper bag? That could be just as distracting!

[–] numerator3962@fedinsfw.app 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)
[–] recursivethinking@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago

The most common kind with the cap attached to the metal hinge thingy rattles/jingles.

Perhaps a beer helmet and 2 bottles of liquor?

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 5 points 13 hours ago

Don't mess with the hard liquor lobby. If you know, you know

So... study whiskey is ok?

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 48 points 17 hours ago (1 children)
[–] West_of_West@piefed.social 19 points 16 hours ago

It'd be barbaric otherwise

[–] DaleGribble88@programming.dev 25 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

I mean, no one is going to do calculus sober

[–] gandalf_der_12te@feddit.org 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)
[–] DaleGribble88@programming.dev 1 points 8 hours ago

Did you know that 1 in 5 car crashes involve a drunk driver? That means that in 4 out of 5 crashes, everyone is completely sober! It is way safer to drive while intoxicated! Pour yourself another cup, it's the only way to be responsible.

[–] YellowParenti@lemmy.wtf 29 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

I actually derive better after a few drinks!

[–] elephantium@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago

Never drink and derive.

It’s the carbonation induced volcano they’re trying to avoid

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 21 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

So, they just don’t want drinks that make noise when you open them?

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 9 hours ago

Fizzy drinks in cans can erupt like a volcano too

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 23 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It’s not the booze that’s banned it’s the can

[–] nycki@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

if that were the case they could just write "no canned beverages" or "no drinks without resealable lids" etc. there's no reason to bring booze into it at all. so if that was their intent then this is really poor communication.

[–] dankm@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago

I assume VT is like what I've read about the USA where people can't walk around outside with open alcohol.

Other canned drinks can just be brought out when you're leaving, but you need to try to conceal beer. That'd lead to unnecessary spills.

Never heard that particular slang but sounds like it's from the Twisted Teas brand

Fascists :(

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 7 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

I misread this and immediately thought, “I wouldn’t go to the library without my study bear."

“You’ve got this, babe!”
