Alarm after Elias Irizarry is hired to position in office that manages highly classified military operations

The Pentagon has appointed a rioter convicted for his role in 6 January, 2021 insurrection to a sensitive national security role dealing with counterterrorism, overriding insiders’ concerns about his past record.

Elias Irizarry, who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in connection with the storming of the US Capitol, has been appointed to a position in the US Department of Defense’s special operations and low intensity conflict office which manages highly classified military operations, causing alarm among Pentagon officials.

The story was first reported by the Washington Post, which published a picture of Irizzary – holding what appeared to be a metal pole and wearing a pro-Donald Trump Make America Great Again (Maga) hat – looking over a wall on the day of the riot.

I thought this admin hated DEI? Oh wait, they hate everyone who isn't a white man.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 6 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

My fellow Americans, why are you at work and not filling the streets?

Life is just good enough where most people don't care as much, because their frame of reference is the one small bad act that just happened. Bad things progressing slowly over time is the strategy of fascists. Most people don't realize what has been lost, they largely only remember when it affects them personally. The goalposts have been incrementally moving, shifting chaos into normalcy. As long as things get worse slowly, most people won't notice. Social media has only exacerbated the short attention spans of the masses.

The planet's climate is catastrophically changing, dictatorships are emerging all over the world and even in your own country, and a few rich assholes literally own everything, but god forbid, we can't stop working or scrolling Tiktok.

Our descendants will all be housed in their own Delaney Halls

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

They filled the streets three times already. It did nothing.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Thats because filling the streets is step 1, they never got to step 2, where you.pull the people fucking your community out of their offices and beat their asses.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Gotta replace step 1 and step 2 with amendement 1 and amendement 2.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Why? Its a timeless human tradition that so famously never happens in America because the last time it did we're still glazing it 250 years later

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

The county wars were a thing, Americans used to frequently shoot corrupt officials. It just usually didn't break past the state level because that's around when those in power wisened up a bit.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 hour ago

Theres also the battle for Blair mountain but its a forgotten art in modern day USA.

"They asked me how well I understood terrorism. I said I have a lot of experience in terrorism. They said welcome aboard."

I wonder if this is yet another symptom of remaining available trump sycophants being bottom-of-the-barrel tier now. As in, all of the other better qualified candidates have left MAGA or been run through and fired already leaving on the dregs at the bottom to appoint to important offices.

"Is there no one that likes me anymore that can do the job?"

"Not really, no sir."

"What about the kid with the MAGA hat and the pole at the insurrection?"

"Uh, sure. We can see if he's available."

[–] pmtriste@lemmy.world 86 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

It makes perfect sense to hire traitors for classified posts given that the people doing the hiring are also traitors who are attempting to destroy the government. Hard to see why this would alarm them at this point.

[–] Gorgritch_umie_killa@aussie.zone 20 points 12 hours ago

At this point if all these national security cunts are is 'alarmed' then they were never looking after that nation properly.

You gotta wonder how far things would've been allowed to go if MAGA had said it was communist...

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 50 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

The Onion can't write shit as stupid as what is actually happening.

[–] homes@piefed.world 23 points 12 hours ago

Of course, not. Articles from the onion are both intelligent and funny.

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Vote SayJess for president in ‘28. On my first day, I promise that I will maroon all of the J6r’s on a sand bar, just far enough away so that they could not come back. Close enough to see the ever so faint light of the city.

That and raze MAGA to the ground.

If the US makes it out of this, the next presidential candidate must run on a platform of bringing the entire Trump regime to justice. The regime has exposed how much power the president actually has, and I expect them to use it.

Unfortunately I'm not holding my breath, I'm expecting another Newsom or Harris type right winger

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

only way that happens is if you have the majority able/willing to hold scrotus accountable too

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

The regime has shown that they have no enforcement mechanism. Also, it can and should be expanded

[–] howdy@lemmy.ml 11 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

why does he look like a teenager

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 16 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Irizzary was 19 at the time of the attack

He practically is.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

He literally is, in that picture.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

Thank you. I noticed that after I commented but didn't want to go back and edit.

[–] thorhop@sopuli.xyz 14 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It's obvious that domestic terrorism is moving away from white supremacists and neo nazis, because they'll all be given these jobs to persecute dissenters.

The term "terrorism" has been skewed for many years, but now the legislation behind it is going to be used to build a morals police.

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 10 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Domestic terrorism is going to exclusively mean 1) belonging to an organization or politically active in any way against the GOP, and 2) trans people and 3) anything else they decide last minute.

[–] FirstCircle@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 hours ago

2.5) anyone who won't claim to be a fundamentalist Christian

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 9 hours ago

Radical pro-Transgender, right?

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 20 points 12 hours ago

The main person of riots is president...

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 hours ago

Ah, this makes sense.

[–] homes@piefed.world 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

If Osama bin Laden was still alive, he could be vice president

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 10 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Hes too brown. Hitler though, if Hitler was alive and on the market you know we'd be snatching him up

[–] homes@piefed.world 6 points 11 hours ago

if Hitler was alive and on the market

It’s a good thing I’m outside smoking a cigarette, cause I just puked.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 5 points 11 hours ago

A terrorist in a counter-terrorism role? sure why not, it fits America's current MO.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Which is why this story has taken off like wildfire across the corporate news sewers.
