to quote my incredibly hilarious husband on the topic of a similar work: "When you are the printer, the whole world must accept your typeface."

To show which way the wind is blowing

Maybe that's an E, but the rest isn't text, it's sheet music. It's a shame it's cropped because, although I've seen a bunch of example of illuminated texts, I've not often seen such embellishments on sheet music.

[–] FrankFrankson@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

It's E as in "E's usin a duck ta sail"

The flag is waving the wrong way if this was even a possibility. Nice touch for the absurdity.

Maybe the wind is blowing faster than the duck is flying

[–] Starik@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

The duck might not even be flapping; just being used as a sail.

Look, they didn't have television, movies, or games back then!

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They had theatre and games. Why do you think they did not?

Have you ever been so bored you paid people to enact a play, spur-of-the-moment?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Bored enough, yes, but I didn't have the money. Later rich enough, but I wasn't ever that bored.

Needs more snails.
