Alex Pretti has a legal firearm on him and he was killed by his government for it.

[–] cattywampus@lemmy.world 41 points 4 days ago (2 children)

By the logic of the post that only means he didn't have enough firearms, for instance if he had a tactical nuke he would be alive and well today /s

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Just hook the nuke to an implanted heart monitor like Raven from Snow Crash.

(Also /s)

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Also the bad guy from Spawn(1997)!

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Hey! That bad guy has a name! It's uhhhh... Ummm... Like, Martin Sheen with a bad dye job.

I think that's the one movie that could have been elevated by casting Joe Estevez instead.

Only if you ride with it in a sidecar on a motorcycle

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

Second snow crash post today! Yay!

Do you legitimately not see a difference between having a concealed pistol and open carrying a rifle?

Like, to you those are the same thing?

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Concealed gun with a valid conseal carry permit

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Which resulted in the wildest mental gymnastics of “Alex wasn’t allowed to have firearms at protests but the neo Nazis definitely are don’t ask why”.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

He had a concealed weapon he never reached for....

I've never seen cops start beating a person that was carrying a rifle.

Because the rifle is a visual deterrent. A concealed pistol is not a deterrent, because it's fucking concealed.

If Alex Pretti had an AR15, the cops wouldn't have started beating him or likely others.

Going for the worst-take-ever award?

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Cops are cowards, so they might not have felt empowered enough to gang up on him.

A visible, if not brandished, firearm would have heightened the situation for sure, and made it so there was a 50/50 chance that "they fucked off" or "they shot him."

But, even though it's with hindsight, seeing as they still killed him...

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I can find an endless stream of cops escalating violence against people who are not visibly armed.

Can you show me one instance of police escalating to violence against a protestor with a rifle in their hands?

Cops are scared bullies, they attack the weakest targets.

When they see rifles, they go elsewhere.

It's not a "take" it's what the fucking numbers say. Opinions aren't relevant, neither is you believing anything.

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I cannot recall a single video of protesters open carrying getting shot with pepper balls, rubber bullets, or sprayed like any of the unarmed protests we see get fucked with by police in the US on the regular.

The number of christians who don't understand the whole sacrifice for the good of all mankind part of the jesus story is really odd.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 17 points 4 days ago

If he need to defend himself against the government what he need isn't AR-15, but dual wielding Uzi.

[–] sun_is_ra@sh.itjust.works 28 points 4 days ago (5 children)

How many AR-15 do I need to avoid being murdered by my government?

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Enough to shoot down a police helicopter before it drops a bomb on your house.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

All of theirs

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 8 points 4 days ago

Enough to arm at least 300.000 men.

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 days ago

More than the government

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Probably just two, unless you can shoot with your toes.

[–] KiwiTB@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Jesus literally set himself up.... So no amount of weapons would have saved him.

[–] mctoasterson@reddthat.com 8 points 4 days ago

Jesus told his disciples to strap up and even sell their possessions if they couldn't afford to.

Then he said "hol up a minute" when Peter was about to throw down on his behalf.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Which seems a bit forced in terms of messianic prophecy.

He's like the only dude to claim to be Jesus that actually pulled it off, but even then most weren't convinced. It'd make sense he'd lean hard into the whole having to be killed part.

[–] topherclay@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Isn't this what that painting Christ in Gethsemane is depicting? He was struggling about how many AR-15s to bring to the event and he got his answer. That was kinda the whole point of that passage right? He was like "guys I really want to bring enough AR-15s but I have to ask Dad first." And then he got his answer.
