Quoting myself:

Normalize referring to all states as authoritarian regimes.

Regime is just a synonym for government, or administration, with a negative connotation. All governments are regimes.

As Marxists know, all states are dictatorships of one class upon another. All states hold a monopoly on the use of violence. All states are authoritarian.

France is an authoritarian regime. Germany is an authoritarian regime. The UK is an authoritarian regime. Belgium is an authoritarian regime. Italy is an authoritarian regime. The US is an authoritarian regime. Spain is an authoritarian regime. Portugal is an authoritarian regime. Luxembourg is an authoritarian regime. The Netherlands is an authoritarian regime. Austria is an authoritarian regime. Australia is an authoritarian regime. Denmark is an authoritarian regime. Sweden is an authoritarian regime. Finland is an authoritarian regime. Estonia is an authoritarian regime. Latvia is an authoritarian regime...

I ain't no professional languager, but I'm pretty sure if you squint at it "authoritarian", it just means "author of laws"

The ONLY political ideologies that have any right to critique the nature of the state and authority are anarchists and communists. Everyone else are temporarily-embarassed Hiterlites

I don't even have a quip for this, this is just fucking racist.

Thankfully the people in the replies are calling this person out.

Russophobia is a hell of a drug

[–] sexywheat@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

Russia Derangement Syndrome is a legitimate mental illness.

[–] Wheaties@hexbear.net 33 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You say that, but image how fucking cool and funny it would be if people applied the same broad, nation-level scrutiny and association to Yankees.

Guys, I don't wanna alarm anyone, but part of the dev team is from the United States !! What if they're secretly working for palinter? Or the Epstein estate?

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago

That would actually be a valid concern, though.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 36 points 2 weeks ago

yeah well i have concerns about american developers considering everything the US does or causes or supports is way worse than what the rest of the world does when the US isn't involved.

Resisting authoritarianism by black-listing ethnic groups

russian authoritarianism is a genetic condition, passed congenitally. the original sin of slavs.

[–] kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

yeah they also have a genetic trait for seeking vodka.

even the babies instinctively reach for a bottle of vodka when they see one.

this can be proven by filling the bottle of vodka with water. they wont reach for it. it's their 67th sense

Fascinating.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

gotta use an old-timey name for it like Muscovy or whatever

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

That does actually work better

USA is the most authoritarian regime currently in existence. No other nation goes around destroying the sovereignty of other nations at gunpoint to straight up steal their resources, as Trump has explicitly stated. No other nation has ever had the incarceration rate that the US has. Russia is also not founded on slavery and genocide, nor is it currently committing a genocide in its colonies as America is.

Maybe we should start banning all English speakers and Americans from projects for supporting authoritarians

An app I used to use was kicked off of Github due to contributions from a user in a sanctioned nation. Rather than highlight the absurdity of these sanctions measures (since the app is 100% free and not materially helping any nation in any way), it lead to some users hosting a witch hunt where they tried to guess which contributor triggered the action and which nation they are from (or that they were in when they submitted their PR).

Every time I hear about US sanctions and how they can impact third-party nations who interact with sanctioned entities, I am bewildered. I don't understand how this can be accepted and normalized internationally. The US holds a monopoly over many modern necessary services and can cut off anyone it wants for any reason. It's absurd.

It's called "The Law", sweaty. Look it up. smuglord

[–] Ekranoplane@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's called the rules based order. The US refuses to ratify any treaties that would make actual laws.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

Right. "The Law."
