From what I’ve gleaned online so far (and I am not claiming this is a holistic overview, just the broadest scope that I’ve been able to gather up to this point):
- Fedorov was a key player in the recent aggressive modernization and drone-forward strategy and tactics the UAF are now using
- Fedorov’s background isn’t military - it’s business and politics
- Fedorov had been having conflicts with both military and political leadership, including but not limited to Zelenskyy and the UAF general staff
- some have raised potential corruption charges/issues against Fedorov (the veracity of which is currently unclear)
- there have been some procurement issues in some important areas (e.g. artillery ammunition) that it seems Fedorov has failed/been unable to address.
Frankly, I’m adopting a “wait and see” approach - there’s clearly a lot more going on behind the scenes than laypersons are aware of.
The media circus around this seems, to me, to be just that: the media latching onto a (high-level) personnel change and sensationalizing it without getting the entire story and all the details. And I doubt all the details are going to be revealed quickly, since, you know, some of the details are strategic in nature, and Ukraine is still actively fighting a war, and they don’t want to just broadcast to Russia (amongst others) about where exactly their logistics issues and bottlenecks and failures are.
