MODERATORS

Canvas 2026 has concluded!

Thank you all for participating, it's been a blast as always! πŸ’œ

Canvas 2026 ran from July 18th @ 4am UTC - July 20th @ 4am UTC

Feedback & Future Events

Hope you enjoyed the event as much as I and the moderators did! If you have any feedback, feature requests, or really anything, drop it in this thread (include any fun event ideas you have as well!)

Canvas Prints ✨

Bringing the Canvas prints back this year, but only for like 2 weeks. Once August 1st rolls around, the shop will close again. (You'll also be able to buy any previous year's prints)

https://sc07.shop/

International shipping is a pain, so this year the shop will only let you checkout with an address in the United States. But! if you are wanting to get a print, but are not in the US, fill out this form and I'll see what I can do :)

Source

Just as always, Canvas is an open source project! If you want to take a peek at the code, report and issue directly to the tracker, or even contribute yourself, the source is available on sc07.dev

You can register either with your Fediverse account, or with an email and password. Unfortunately due to a lot of casino bots, registration is behind an approval queue. Send an email to hello@sc07.com if you'd like to ensure I see it

Timelapses

~~Not yet available~~, but they will be posted [in the !canvas@toast.ooo](https://toast.ooo/c/canvas) Lemmy community, on the @canvas@fediverse.events Mastodon, and of course on sc07.tv PeerTube

Data

~~Not yet available, but it will be available soon (I will update this post when it is available)~~

Tools

Check out Monte's CanvasStats.com to explore the world of data and numbers for all of the years (he's also added achievements this year!)

Special Thanks

Thank you to all of the moderators that helped out this year!

As always, thank you so much for participating! Every contribution makes the Canvas what it is πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ - grant (https://grants.cafe/@grant / @grant@toast.ooo)

Didn’t know this was a thing but I appreciate the Germans telling Merz to lick balls.

[–] Muehe@lemmy.ml 28 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh yeah, a few weeks back a protester on some demonstration had a sign saying "Merz leck Eier" (lick eggs/balls, same diff), and the police confiscated the sign and charged them with "an insult to a political official capable of damaging their public work" (roughly translated), an obviously preposterous state of affairs even if you ignore the fact that we apparently have Lèse-majesté-laws again. Hence the well earned ridicule.

[–] lmuel@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe we should try calling him "1 pimmel" next?

Thanks everyone for participating <3 Hope to see you all next year again

The cursor dance party at the end was great

yea it's always a struggle getting the event out lol

for this year I did setup a mailing list, so the posts don't get lost on your feed (and if you check your email regularly)

was my first canvas here and I had a lovely time, thank you for letting me help you all out with your amazing art, hope I didn't step on too many toes, you are wonderful people πŸ’œ great job everyone

[–] dangling_cat@piefed.blahaj.zone 34 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Wow! The water trickles all the way from the top!

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s the trickle down theory.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

trickle down

interestingly though is that the water trickled UP? (it was drawn from the bottom up)

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

Nice detail, I didn't see that at first!

Every time I come back here, I see this post and misread it as 'Thanks for ruining it :)' and it makes me momentarily angry until I realize what you actually said. So, thanks for that. :)

[–] Deebster@infosec.pub 25 points 2 weeks ago

I liked that it didn't feel like there were many (any?) bots, and artwork was moved instead of being erased. Congrats to a smoothly running event, and thanks to all who played.

[–] IronKrill@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 weeks ago

Was also the first time I've participated and I loved it. Thanks for hosting, the end result looks fantastic! Great job everyone on all the detail work the second day. My favourite details has to be New Zealand leaking down half the canvas.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Great picture and nearly no country flags, that's nice to see!

[–] M137@lemmy.today 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Except the UK who just can't stop themselves from colonising any new areas.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Come on, let them have it. They have it hard enough already with all the leg shooting they are busy with.

(Also I have to admit that it is at least a visually interesting flag, not like so many others)

Thank you so much for organising this again! Canvas is always such a cool event and really shows how much cool stuff people can make when they work together :3

[–] Muehe@lemmy.ml 19 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

~~Is it just me or is the picture missing the last few minutes?~~

Anyway, I enjoyed all the new features, especially templates, cursors, and the new pixel pulses. I think I barely managed to test half the new stuff in the few hours I participated. :D

Edit: Canvas_final_v2.png

~~There is indeed some stuff missing in the OP picture, see e.g. the void eyes below the pirate.~~

Edit 2: Fixed, thanks!

[–] synapse1278@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

This was super fun again!

Thanks to everyone who participated on the Home Arcade on the right side of the canvas! When I woke up on Sunday to see it completed, it felt like a miracle!

Damn it!

The ONE time this year I get to go on vacation and I don't get to contribute to this masterpiece?

Everyone did a beautiful job on it!

[–] grant@toast.ooo 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It’ll be around a different time next year, which should avoid people’s vacations πŸ˜‰ For some reason this was a very popular vacation weekend

There’s also a mailing list now, so things don’t get lost in your feed https://lists.sc07.com/postorius/lists/events-announcements.lists.sc07.com/

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Oh wow thank you for taking that into consideration! I'll paint "thanks grant" into it next year!

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Thanks for everyone who helped MULTIVERSE build the Woke zone! We had, in no particular order:

  • Souly the Soulism Ball
  • Esperanto
  • Trans
  • Queer
  • Antifascist Action
  • Aboriginal
  • XLOV
  • Otherkin
  • Neutrois
  • Lesbian
  • Voidpunk
  • Nonbinary
  • Water
  • Luz and Amity
  • Aboriginal Amongus

Amongus maybe isn't the wokest thing (although you SHOULD watch the TV show, it's very woke), and there were two anime girls in the woke zone who had nothing to do with leftism at all, but most of the art there is on-theme.

I also wanna shout out SLRPNK for their Hope is Rebellion and Turtle Island flags, the Palestine Flags with based political commentary, and the vegan community for the Dominion link and the QR code. You should definitely scan the QR code, you get to see cute animals on a farm! And they die in horrible ways in front of you! You might become a vegan if you scan the QR code.

My favourite detail (other than the animation of Souly smoking a joint you can see in the timelapse) is Mario riding the velociraptor from Dino Run, next to the QR code.

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 6 points 2 weeks ago

glad we saved the antifa flag

[–] Krusty@feddit.it 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And a sneaky polyamory flag ;)

unfortunately :’(

There is now a mailing list so it doesn’t get lost in your feed; https://lists.sc07.com/postorius/lists/events-announcements.lists.sc07.com/

And the Matrix/Discord if that’s up your alley more

Hope to see you next year tho πŸ˜‰

Thank you for all your work. The last years I thought you must be one of the graybearded fediwizards, judging by how well this event is run. But after watching your Fireside Fedi episode, I have to say it's nice to see that young people are building awesome stuff for the fediverse.

Thanks to everyone for your colorful pixels, participating in cursor dances and the minimal use of country flags. This was a lot of fun.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

I have to second this. The Fireside talk was a nice behind the scenes view and I appreciate Grant even more!

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (5 children)

Surprised there is no continuos german flag in the map.
At least our Mouse, Elephant and Duck are represented

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 11 points 2 weeks ago

And for that I am very proud :)

This year was amazing again. I had fun pixeling our Furry corner and helping our friendly neighbors :) Some great art was created by everyone, I like the endresult.
Thank you for hosting this great event every year, we truly appreciate it.

And to the vandals from programming.dev and co: WHY?!

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Thanks for running it, it was an absolute blast! :D

[–] foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

This was absolutely amazing, thank you so much to the organizers!! I can't wait for next year :D

Never underestimate the power of a bunch of autists

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 10 points 2 weeks ago

I hope my few purple pixels for the bass clef made it...

[–] reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

That was a lot of fun, thanks!

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 9 points 2 weeks ago

I want to say thanks to grant and the mods for hosing this! It's so much fun to work together with everyone to cover as much canvas as possible and make such cool art.

Glad to see Old Man up there in the furry corner. It was my biggest project out of all the canvas events so far. I love how the surrounding art coexists with it, especially the flower at the top of the hat.

It was great fun.

[–] Snoopy@piefed.social 8 points 2 weeks ago

That was fun, thank you :3

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago

The picture top right is just amazing. I love it so much.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 8 points 2 weeks ago

This was a great event just as always! Glad to be a part of it.

This event was the most fun I’ve had in a while! I appreciate how respectful most contributors were of others’ artwork. It felt good to both contribute to others’ projects, and to see others contributing to things I started. It came out amazing! Looking forward to the next event!

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

My favourite is the christmas tree in the centre.

[–] IPeaceInYourFace@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I did not expect to see toki pona in there.
