Because the sanctions against Russia went so well (Germany deindustrializing, Europe spiraling into full-blown economic crisis, Russia now self-reliant and with a newly reinvigorated and growing industrial manufacturing economy), the geniuses in Berlin and Brussels are preparing to sanction the central economic engine of the world, an economy at least ten times the size Russia's and upon which they themselves are even more dependent, at a time when Germany and Europe are maximally uncompetitive.

“The objective is not to cut China off from technology forever,” Tordoir said in an interview. “The objective is to show that Germany has teeth, to remind Beijing that China also has critical dependencies on Europe.”

Showing your unreliability to your biggest trading partner is a great idea. 🤓

It's an especially brilliant idea at a time when China increasingly has no more need of German products because it is now manufacturing them itself and better. Who needs German car exports when you have the world's biggest EV industry? Machine tools are now also something China increasingly produces itself. Microchips we already know China is practically caught up. What do the Chinese need from the Germans? Bratwurst? And why would anyone assume that if Germany does this it won't just motivate China to further develop domestic industries to substitute a now clearly unreliable trade partner? Did the sanctions on Russia not do exactly that?

Yes, and China is now addressing its own weak spot which is food self reliance. Expect that they will rely each year less on imported soybeans, meat, corn and other products. The thing is, China can turn to a more planned economy focused on their huge internal market, while capitalists simply can't, right?

And until they do that they still have Russia which is a big food exporter. Another way in which the Russia+China pairing is a perfect symbiosis, just like with energy. Russia has a lot of what China needs and vice versa.

I hope that with Europe intensifying its war with Russia, the pro-EU faction in the Duma and the Kremlin get completely sidelined.

I think we're solidly past that point already. That has already happened a while ago. Russia is arguably more hardline toward the West (or at least toward Europe) now than even Iran.

But I still hear every now and then from political analytics that some of these pests are still flying around and still buzzing. I simply hope the symbiosis with China and antagonism with the West reach such a point that any lingering pro-West sentiment will simply be exploded. China has its reasons to be cautiously improving relations with Russia.

Yeah, those types are always going to be there. They exist in China, they exist in Iran and they exist in Russia. Maybe the only country that doesn't have them is the DPRK. Another reason why the DPRK is the best country in the world. That and its complete lack of public advertising.

It makes sense from a US point of view. German politicians apparently represent international/US finance capital more than German/European industry.

[–] burlemarx@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

German bourgeoisie is actually part of the global Wall Street financial bourgeoisie. This is why they don't care.

Makes sense. Post-war West Germany was completely rebuilt to be the USA’s military base nearest the Eastern Bloc and subsequently using American finance to rebuild economically.

After reunification this became the case for all of Germany.

Yes they don’t have to maintain a internal base of power they nourish themselves with, their base of power is in Washington and the IMF.

[–] Lowleekun@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

If people would look at Germanies decisions from the last couple decades as the lap dogs of the US then it makes much more sense. Turns out t our leaders aren't stupid nor incompetent but our media plays along pretending it is all a mistake and not going according to the plan (even if it is a shoddy one, but then it is the losing camp).

[–] REEEEvolution@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 3 days ago

Been the case since Merkel at the latest.

It's kinda funny how Western powers destroyed their own economies by outsourcing all production to China when their economies were their power.

What did they think was going to happen?

They were thinking about those sweet profits! Planning for long term sustainability is not something capitalists are very good at so it’s no surprise to me that they haven’t had the foresight that chasing cheap labor is not only a well that will one day run dry, but also leaves your economy dependent on global trade.

Meanwhile Russia and Iran are both pretty much entirely self reliant because of exclusion from the west’s trade network and aren’t rolling over militarily like the western governments seemed to think they would.

[–] burlemarx@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The problem is that the multi-national bourgeoisie of globalization looked down to national interests when they stood in the way of the profits. They thought that they could rely on the strength of the dollar (and US sanctions) and on the imperial military interventions forever.

Celebrating the eternal endsieg of neoliberalism. Ironically despite their rampant chauvinism and supremacist actions a lot of elites look down on “supporting” their local productive base as “provincialism” - A untethered existence from material basis and the deconstruction of reality (the ultimate goal of postmodernism) is what they are after.

Many see themselves in the Zionist cause because its even more racially exclusive than being just a white supremacist.

China could bring Germany to a complete economic halt in a week if they wanted. lol. I sometimes with they would put these chest thumping idiots in their place.
