Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

I'm upvoting because I like the sentiment, but the photo looks fake. The "handwriting" is too perfect, the graffiti is behind the bottom text, and the rips look fake. Was this the original ad???

I also like the sentiment, but resent being lied to and manipulated ("Hate these Ava ads, glad to see my people in San Francisco feel the same way." uhuh, sure buddy). Downvoted the post.

Is that a real ad? If so I think they should start cutting at the top.

real ad, they are playing the Internet games, getting free advertising as form of social media sharing and outrage, in hope to get some real customers, which is probably working, some ai entusiast out there

I’ve seen this ad (or a virtually identical one) in LA as well.

Yeah this company has a bunch of ads all over SF, most were this exact one until recently. Wild stuff.

I do love how the clone wars term Clanker has become mainstream for referring to AI

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 1 day ago

TIL clanker comes from Star Wars.

Star Wars definitely popularized it, but it's been floating around in science fiction for a long time. https://sfdictionary.com/view/3048/clanker

Huh TIL. I never heard it used to describe bots before Clone Wars

I've seen that ad in NYC, too. Occasionally defaced.

They're probably betting on free outrage publicity plus soulless capitalists taking it straight. But I hope the outrage may be strong enough that it doesn't net pay out for them.

whether it's good or bad publicity, its still publicity. Companies strive for publicity, if anything defacating on it just adds monetary value.

there's always going to be some individual who finds the advertisement appealing or just looks up the website of the advertisement
