Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.

Oh so Singapore is controlled by baby bibi too
A subtle control many feel is the risk of conflict. The local church near us was our boxing location for boxes for the hungry and unhoused, and when they found out that the lead person on the food boxes program was also attending pro palestine rallies, they cut off their participation in food boxes. They arent a jewish temple, and they obviously have no jewish members, but they fear conflict with the jewish community or some backhanded impact from funders or their spouses. So they will have nothing to do with anyone who endangers a cent of their funding. In a way I get it, but its not great and we were disrupted for a bit so some people suffered. 501c3 boards dont deal with pressure or risk very well, and they avoid conflict at all costs.

Thank God, I've been worried about a massive attack coming from Singapore for decades now. I'm so glad their nation decided to support Palestine instead of invading us.

I haven't listened to to that song since I started listening to Cocteau Twins. Didn't even realize Elizabeth Fraser was on it, makes sense in retrospect.

I had to reread that headline a few times before I remembered Massive Attack is a band 😑
There's actually a story around the band name: during the first gulf war, around '91, they changed it to just Massive because they did not want to appear like they're endorsing it.

I love Singapore, but I have a question. Would you ban a music band, if they waved:

For starters, I would think no one on this thread is in the business of banning musical acts in general.
Why do you love Singpore? Genuinely asking as someone who visits the place at least once a year.

You can freely wave the flag of Singapore in Singapore, but for any other national flag, there could be a problem if you don't get permission first.
There's just a lot of weird laws in Singapore.

I mean as long as it's applied universally, I'm not completely against banning flags of other nations.
The problem is when the Israel flag is allowed yet the Palestinians flag isn't.
I think the problem is just having weird laws against freedom of speech, but that's just me.
I mean. Banning other flags in specific places seems like it could be appropriately applied but also potentially abused.
Not sure there is a right answer. I share your concerns with censorship. It never stops with one thing.
Cuz ya know, if there's one thing Singapore is touchy about considering its long historical ties with the Middle East, it's Palestine and the fate of Jews and Arabs there.
Honestly, what do they care? Don't they have other things to worry about on the other side of the planet?
Dictatorships will have their obsessions.
They care about enforcing censorship and keeping a lid on "politics" disrupting "social harmony". Once again Palestine is an issue that unearths the deeper fractures and contradictions in a society.

Singapore has always given me the creeps because of the whole conscription thing. This just feels indicative of that underlying rot.
I visit Singapore quite often and it's dystopian despite all the pretty parks and malls. The thing is it's dystopian but boring so people don't really notice it. The entire "country" is a tax and school haven for Asian billionaires, there's absolutely nothing else there.
They've only had 1 party rule, it's technically a democracy but it's as rigged as it can be without crossing the line into actual rigging.
Massive attack is awesome, such a great experience to see their show. Much better than you would expect from a 35+ year old band.
