Also how the fuck is Algeria 57.5% and lower than Saudi Arabia, mfs over there didn't allow women to drive until 2018

Also how the fuck is the west bank the worst country in this tf

[–] redtea@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 2 years ago

Saudi Arabia gets extra points for staying on top of its witchcraft problem.

[–] AlbigensianGhoul@lemmygrad.ml 42 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Brazil on 85 despite abortion being a crime that can get you arrested and put in jail for years.

if not country.white:
  country.score = random(0,90)

China: 75'6

Saudi Arabia: 80

These maps and statistics are always such absurdly obvious propaganda. It's really impressive that most people see this and just believe it. Confirmation bias is really scary isn't it? People want it to be true so they believe it.

I think it’s just a lack of paying that much critical attention — map looks enough like the International Community Hexbear emoji

India, r+pe Capital of the world: 74.4

[–] calcifiedNeurotic@lemmygrad.ml 31 points 2 years ago

Heads up Argentinian women, the "Visual Capitalist" thinks you should move to Saudi Arabia to get better treatment.

Looks like the US lost 9 points because abortion being borderline impossible in half the states and extremists harassing women in front of clinics and all the conservative politicians platforming on abortion ban and the Roe v Wade overturn thing.

But China is still lower for... reasons

Edit : oh and I forgot, I don't think French women getting catcalled and sexually assaulted basically 40 times a day would agree with the perfect score :)

I just noticed that it said Gaza's women can't travel without the authorization of a male guardian, this people means by the authorization of an IDF soldier or what?

[–] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

Solution: Israel is the legal guardian of all women in Gaza now! You wouldn't doubt Israel...would you? There have certainly never been abuses of women in relationships with a major power differential, like police and civilians or occupying powers and civilians...that'd be crazy.

"Luxembourg has the lowest gender wage gap (1.3%)." Half of the Western European countries have 100% "equality".

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 2 years ago

So what they’re saying is there’s still a gap…

[–] Magos_Galactose@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Can I point out how color scaling really suck here? The shade between 85 (Brazil) and 75 (China) is much more different between 96 (Australia) and 85, or between 75 and 45 (Egypt).

It doesn't even match the scale provided at the bottom of the image.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 years ago

Yeah the colour scaling isn’t great but at least the palette is pretty

[–] calcifiedNeurotic@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

It's cool how by their own criteria "women's rights" includes 7/8 purely financial indicators and nothing like "culture" or "safety in public" or "freedom from harassment". Like damn, I didn't realize the "Visual Capitalist" is a class-reductionist tankie Broshevik /s

[–] American_Communist22@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 2 years ago (1 children)

HOW THE FUCK IS SAUDI ARABIA HIGHER THAN CHINA

[–] ledlecreeper27@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How does UAE still have over 80?

[–] thefreepenguinalt@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 2 years ago

well, it's easy, they just pulled these numbers out of their arses

[–] Trudge@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Score 100 means that women are on equal legal standing with men across all areas measured

This is exactly why neo imperialism is bad for women even in western countries. By saying that women outside of the west have it so bad, they are forced conclude that women in the imperial core are having a great time. This ignores many of their grievances, inequality, and violence and it will continue to get ignored just to make a bogus claim about the global south.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 19 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No men or women have access to legal abortion, both are equal under the law. 100/100 perfect equality.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago

In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread.

[–] ButtigiegMineralMap@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Canada sitting at 100? When exactly was the last female PM?

[–] thefreepenguinalt@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 2 years ago

also saudi arabia :skull:

[–] Aru@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 2 years ago

Can't believe they cropped tunisia

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I honestly thought China was on the good end of women’s rights. I know this is a map with a heavy Western bias but come on, are they really that bad?

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 33 points 2 years ago (2 children)

They gave Poland a 93.8 and the countries east of it around 70 while there's barely any difference between them.

[–] nurjahreszeiten@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 years ago

Polish women have to go to Germany or Austria to get abortions that apparently is just a score difference of 4.5 to said countries 🤔

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

The only difference I can think of is that Poland had banned abortions.

[–] Eat_Yo_Vegetables69@lemmygrad.ml 32 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

The US being 91.3 is already a joke, but rating Mongolia that high (Mongolia's fairly friendly with the US) and putting the PRC on par with India is extremely suspicious (unless this is from a few decades ago).

[–] darkcalling@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 2 years ago

The bottom shows facebook, youtube, instagram, twitter, and a website. There's no way it's more than about a decade old and I really doubt it's more than a few years old. Company named was founded in 2011.

More importantly, it shows Afghanistan very prominently as being under Taliban rule.

It must have been made in the past 2 years because the last time that was true was 2001 before any of those social media services existed.

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

Lmao at Japan, the country whose representative at the recent G7 meeting on women's rights being the only dude present, somehow beating China.

[–] Ocommie63@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 years ago

😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂💀

[–] keoTZO@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 years ago
[–] Nationalgoatism@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

So I guess abortion access just doesn't factor in at all?

[–] starhonker@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Apparently Gaza is now Kuwait, according to this map?

[–] QuickPlay@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 years ago

A lot of map makers and some supporters mix/confuse the Palestinian flag with the Kuwaiti flag.

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

South Africa 88? On papers like the constitution sure our women's rights are great sure, but the actual reality on the ground is very different.

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

How in the world does China get only a 75.6 here?

[–] CicadaSpectre@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 years ago

"Visual Capitalist" in the bottom left corner explained everything.

[–] ComradeChairmanKGB@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Canada the country where women are routinely sterilized against their will? That Canada? High score lmao.
