Yeah

The Promised Neverland ending

They managed to achieve the best possible outcome for Emma's gang, getting everyone out from there.

The only thing they had to sacrifice was one of Emma's ears.

test-intro scene

Why the heck is Doom's soundtrack playing here 💀

Also, regarding the true meaning behind the dungeon, I bet it's the ol' cliche of "the real gold (read: treasure) is the friends you made along the way".

I like playing a Blaine deck (i.e., Rapidash, Ninetales), so I started my ranked season to see how far I could get with it.

Mad respect for actually bringing your favourite deck to ranked battles 🫡

I just know my boi Magcargo would get curbstomped out the gate 😭

All the battles and my result are viewable below.

Looks like Suicune would do very well here. So many fire decks, and Lucario single-handedly got rid of the lightning decks that Suicune is weak against.

the most common decks seemed to be Mega Blaziken and Mega Lucario.

Also, interesting that your experience matches this post. Maybe people just enjoy playing fan favourites in general (which is why they are fan favourites 😅)

Hopefully there's going to be a significant upgrade to the Switch 2 that justifies getting it, then I'll pick up Switch 2, Pokopia and Winds and Waves in one shot.

This is just a promotional video but it's actually pretty wholesome and well-made.

Anyway, looks like they've got something big in store for the 50th anniversary. I'm so looking forward to it.

Since nobody mentioned it yet: The Promised Neverland

It started with a very strong hook, had a middle section full of suspense, and ended the best way I could hope for.

I always hear people say it's horrible but it seems to be very popular in Japan/Asia.

I'd say it's hated the same way people hate on Sword Art Online. Or if you're are a programmer, the same way people hate on Java.

There are anime that people watch, and anime that people hate.

I'm rewatching the original Gundam now but I'm almost done.

Oh wow is it all of UC or just the original 1979 anime? Personally, for the UC timeline, I have watched only the 1979 anime so far 😅

I don't know which to watch next...

Assuming you have completed only the 1979 anime, the logical next step is to continue with the rest of UC. Otherwise, there are so many options when it comes to the AUs.

Without knowing anything about your taste, I can only tell you about my top 3 Gundams:

  1. Witch from Mercury
  2. SEED
  3. 00

What are your preferences when it comes to anime / shows / stories?

But really, the AUs are mostly (all? I haven't watch everything) great, and I can only assume even the worst Gundams are just mid. So it's hard to go wrong with anything you pick.

Update:

I played another 27 games to reach 930 points (i.e. ultra ball 4 retention). I won 15 out of 27 games, which gave me the same win rate as before: 55.6%.

Like before, I switched my deck every 3 games to keep things fresh. When I had went through all of my meta-viable decks, I gave some of the previously-played, poor-performing decks a chance to redeem themselves.

decks used

  1. meowscarada
  2. buzzwole
  3. dark greninja
  4. charizard Y
  5. giratina darkrai (a.k.a. darktina)
  6. oricorio greninja (a.k.a. orininja)
  7. oricorio magnezone, revised
  8. zoroark
  9. hydreigon

Once again, I faced a variety of decks (16 unique archetypes!)

opponents' decks

  1. sleep lucario (x3)
  2. oricorio magnezone
  3. altaria greninja (x2)
  4. sceptile goomy
  5. blaziken (x4)
  6. sleep altaria (x3)
  7. zoroark (x3)
  8. sceptile
  9. lucario hitmontop
  10. venusaur
  11. steelix
  12. altaria gourgeist (x2)
  13. charizard (with entei and castform)
  14. oricorio greninja

  • lightning - 2
  • psychic - 7
  • fighting - 4
  • darkness - 3
  • metal - 1
  • dragon - 0
  • colorless / mixed - 1

Notes:

Although the meta is still diverse, I'm beginning to notice some concentration in deck archetypes.

  • Altaria is over-represented, at 7 out of 27 decks faced. It is not surprising, considering that its 3 viable variants - sleep, gourgeist and greninja - are all quite successful.
  • Unfortunately, there's starting to be more sleep scams running around, at 6 out of 27 decks.
  • 18 out of 27 decks (66%) have some way inflicting status conditions, so make sure to have Pokemon Center Lady / Ogerpon / Comfey on hand.
  • Decks with too many supporters are prone to bricking. I try to limit the number of supporters in my deck to 7 maximum.

Oricorio-Magnezone (updated)

oricorio-magnezone

P.S. Among my decks, Oricorio-Magnezone underwent the most changes.

  • Replaced Ogerpon with Chingling for a better start. Tech in PCL for sleep scams and Lisia for more card draw.
  • Replaced Giant Capes with Rocky Helmets for more reach and to win baby battles.
  • Removed Clemont because I kept drawing both Magnetons before drawing Clemont.
  • Removed Lisia because I kept drawing all of my basic mons before drawing Lisia; included May instead.
  • Replaced one copy of Rocky Helmet with Giant Cape for dealing with Gourgeist, or just a HP-boost in general.

I got a bit more serious this ranked season, tracking my matches as I play.

I don't usually do this. In previous seasons, there's always handful of top-tier decks, which means that you know what to expect when queuing up for a game in ranked mode.

This season is different. In the competitive scene, there are easily 20 meta-viable archetypes right now, each with a decent chance of winning tournaments. The deck with the highest meta share is Hydreigon at less than 8%, a far cry from its peak of ~17% in B2 / Fantastical Parade. All of them have winrates that hover around 50%, so there is clearly no one dominant deck.

So I thought to track my games and see if there are any trends, any way to counter the meta (spoiler: not really).

I started at the bottom of ultra ball 4, at 690 points. I'm currently sitting at 823 point having just entered master ball. It took me 36 matches for this climb, with a win rate of 55.6% (20 / 36).

I swap my deck every 3 games, which means that I cycled through 12 decks:

my decks

  1. zoroark
  2. altaria-greninja
  3. sceptile
  4. hydreigon

  8. oricorio-magnezone
  9. manetric-zeraora

Note that the extremely small sample sizes mean that individual deck's win rate is meaningless here.

All in all, I played against 21 unique archetypes:

opponents' decks

  1. sceptile (x3)
  2. sleep altaria
  3. hydreigon (x4)
  4. sleep vaporeon
  5. poison sceptile

  17. poison hydreigon
  18. zoroark
  19. lucario-hitmontop (x3)
  20. leafeon
  21. sceptile-goomy

The most repeats I faced off against were Hydreigon and Blaziken at 4 times each. Right below them would be Sceptile and Lucario-Hitmontop, tied at 3 encounters.

With such variety in my games, I believe this has to be the most diverse meta in Pocket. (I only joined towards the tail end of WoSS, but I heard that previous meta had been completely dominated with Darktina.)

Unfortunately, such diversity means that it is harder to counter opposing decks without making your deck weaker into all the other decks.

However, IMO it is still possible to make some micro adjustments. For me, the main one I made was to include one copy of Chingling in some of the decks that don't typically run Chingling e.g. Magnezone, Blaziken.

A sizable fraction of my opponents were running rare-candy stage-2 decks. Naturally, Chingling shuts those down. Another significant chunk ran variants of Lucario, which meant taking weakness damage from Chingling who is Psychic type.

Most importantly, it decreases your odds of a bad start when going first, something that some of these decks struggle with. For example, a typical Blaziken runs 2 Torchics and 2 Castforms, which means starting with Torchic half the time. Adding Chingling would mean having a bad start 40% of the time when going first.

In a nutshell, the ranked meta in Pocket have never been more diverse, which does make for less stale gameplay IMO. There are still some annoyances like Lucky Ice Pop and Sleep Scam, but I'd say it's a fair trade.

If there's one main downside to this diversity, it is that battling just got harder for the average collector / casual battlers. Gone are the days where you can pilot just that one top-tier deck while keeping only 2 or 3 key match-ups in mind.

But enough about the meta. What decks are you running?

Just completed my eeveelution binder thanks to a successful wonderpick 🥳🎉

wonderpick result; picked Vaporeon

This also means an updated display board for Penny's team:

Penny and her vees

I added some guy for a trade, and used the chance to like their showcased binder as usual.

I then tapped into their binder on a whim and saw the most number of crown rares ever. To be specific, the entire 30-card binder is filled with crown rares!

With such a crazy binder, of course I've got to check out the rest of their profile, and now I'm sharing it here.

For comparison, I did spend a bit to catch up (I started this game fairly late) and even then I'm at 11,103 cards.

~80k cards sure is something.

With the release of the Treecko line, all 3 Hoenn starter lines are now available in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Unfortunately, they don't have an equal presence.

The meta of the early season has Mega Blaziken as the top dog. One of its few counters is Hydreigon, which is in turn countered by Mega Sceptile. (You can guess Mega Sceptile's counter.)

There is a rock-paper-scissors dynamic here and Mega Swampert is not in it.

Edit: early-season meta shifts fast. Mega Blaziken may be fraudulent after all.

My previous longest streak was 7 wins with Orizone. Unfortunately, I ran into its hardest counter for the 8th match: Silvally-Rampardos.

I then messed around with Suicune and Mega Venusaur for a bit, but these 2 decks got countered easily (i.e. lost after 1-2 games).

Thankfully, the ever trusty Dark Greninja pulled through.

Here is the deck for reference; nothing new here:
