news
Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

You want a successful communist revolution? Live in Asia.
Jesus Christ, I hate this fucking world, no matter what we do, we're up against these fascist fucks, with everyone being apathetic towards them, while condemning us and not them.
The US could never have it fill of genocide, it has to encourage the eradication of as many people of color around the world as it can. Fuck the compradors that enable the white supremacist entity enact these crimes against their own brothers and sisters.
The fact that there are police officers opposed to the plan is a good sign of progress vs. like ten years ago
Bolivian Police and Army do have a historical progressive (left-wing nationalist pro-soviet ideology) faction, they were behind the 1952 revolution, the 1969 military coup (moderate faction) and the 1970 military coup (socialist faction), were all led by this group.
High up to be getting this documentation too
One thing that doesn't cease to amaze me is the brazenness at which the US government is simultaneously willingly to do The Worst Thing Imagineable anywhere at any opportunity while also eating itself in engorging amounts.
And then you remember: the US government is a system, not a thinking entity. It's a system first of all beholden to capital, and the agents of capital feel nothing else but a hunger that can only be filled by unlimited expansion in every direction internal and external at all costs, even at the expense of longevity itself.
Honestly hoping that cancer will eventually kill it's host and the US empire will finally die
One thing I'd like to note is how no matter how "sovreign" a given nation claims to be, they give the game away immediately once you see their official documents typed up in the Calibri typeface
Just Calibri? Sans-serif fonts are an accommodation for people with dyslexia
Why?
It was the official typeface of the US state department before Marco Rubio decided it was woke and switched back to Times New Roman. Some typefaces are imbued with evil. Calibri embodies the vibe of a large corporate human resources department. Cheltenham carries the aura of breathlessly justifying the slaughter of maternity wards. Tannenberg, well, if you read anything printed in Tannenberg there's a good chance it was written by Joseph Goebbels himself.
I dont mean to alarm you, but the font on this site is very close to calirbi. What is this, some roboto typeface? Haha yes we're all feds.
But in all seriousness, you're talking our your arse, very vibes based
i've seen a better sourve for this, but the wikipage does have the actual nazi decree about moving away from blackletter type faces.
Why should I trust you, a Roboto user?
It is true that the Nazis got mad at blackletter typefaces in 1941 and stopped using them but before that they had been prolific users of Tannenberg. I think they even used it on coins.
Microsoft exclusive
The US is going to open up a can of revolutionary worms in Latin America that it is not prepared to handle. I long for the destruction of this wretched empire of death.
for every Maduro or Evo they kidnap, they spawn a thousand Subcommadante Marcos, Guevaras, and Castros.
This is why we're scary authoritarian tankies btw, nothing else works without Uncle Sam getting his way
Popularly elected, non communist, and he gets treated like fucking Stalin. Might as well be at that point. Hopefully his guards have a lot of dynamite
To western "leftists", getting murdered by fascists is a lot more admirable than murdering said fascists
Always

Was just talking to one of my highschool friends about this passage, gonna save this and maybe find a moment to send him it.
I remember this page distinctly. Great excerpt. The last paragraph should be a tagline & copypasta.
Full text of that page for copypasta purposes:

This was another very difficult question I had to ask my interview subjects, especially the leftists from Southeast Asia and Latin America. When we would get to discussing the old debates between peaceful and armed revolution; between hardline Marxism and democratic socialism, I would ask:“Who was right?”
In Guatemala, was it Árbenz or Che who had the right approach? Or in Indonesia, when Mao warned Aidit that the PKI should arm themselves, and they did not? In Chile, was it the young revolutionaries in the MIR who were right in those college debates, or the more disciplined, moderate Chilean Communist Party?
Most of the people I spoke with who were politically involved back then believed fervently in a nonviolent approach, in gradual, peaceful, democratic change. They often had no love for the systems set up by people like Mao. But they knew that their side had lost the debate, because so many of their friends were dead. They often admitted, without hesitation or pleasure, that the hardliners had been right. Aidit’s unarmed party didn’t survive. Allende’s democratic socialism was not allowed, regardless of the détente between the Soviets and Washington.
Looking at it this way, the major losers of the twentieth century were those who believed too sincerely in the existence a liberal international order, those who trusted too much in democracy, or too much in what the United States said it supported, rather than what it really supported—what the rich countries said, rather than what they did. That group was annihilated.
