Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

What I find worry some is that they know damn well that nobody wants this “future”. And yet they keep trying to push this narrative over and over again.

They have shitloads of money invested, I get that they want to see this take off so they can see some returns.

But they just blatantly want to talk past the environmental impact this has, the destruction of culture and society this will bring.

I’m really starting to feel like at some point it’s not gonna be speeches trying to promote this filth but just blatant implementation in society.

“Use your tokens and participate or starve.”

Better start growing food that AI doesnt have control over, if you are in a position to do so

Er. What food does AI control, or will likely control in the future?

It's not what food "AI" controls, it's what food Big Corps control. When you look at things like Monsanto -> Bayer GMO crop patents, John Deere unrepairable tractors, and on and on, it's pretty ugly. AI is just the next tool in the agriculture mega-corps' anti-consumer march, to continue to "optimize" gouging money from everyone else.

Maybe not the food but the distrubutuon thereof.

If you went to the grocery store and found bare shelves, what would you do?

There is a known and well understood ratio of sq acreage it takes to support one person. Even if you have a suburban garden, you'd eat it clean in a few weeks. If you covered every inch of a suburban lot with crops, you might be able to get through a growing season. Then winter if you live where it gets cold.

Also, if you live in an area where growing isn't possible, you starve. If you live in a city, you can have fun with that. If you love in the country where you may actually have enough land to sustain yourself, expect hungry and desperate visitors.

Society exists because a lot of people do a lot of work to keep it up. I'd prefer that not stop anytime soon.
