I still have no idea what this game is. Is it like what the metaverse was supposed to be like? Just hanging out with friends with online avatars?
Edit: thanks for the great explanations guys!
In a nutshell, you make little Miis and they live together and do silly things. It's a bit like the Sims, but Nintendo-ified. Interestingly enough, there are no censors of any kind for what you can make the Miis say, probably because there is no online capability, which is in contrast to how Nintendo usually operates with heavy restrictions to keep everything child friendly.
From all the videos I have watched (RTGame, Shenpai, CallMeKevin), the Miis fall in love incredibly quickly. As Dan puts it, you can very easily form a "love dodecahedron". You can change the personality of the Miis using little sliders as well as their TTS voices. Miis can also live together in a bigger home, platonically or romantically. You can also set up family dynamics in the game, to ensure that that your Miis can't romance their siblings, for instance. It also looks like setting a pair to be partners will make them more likely to fall in love with each other, which is cute. Once Miis get to know each other, you can view their relationships (from acquaintances to good friends to best friends forever)
You can also draw your own features for your Miis (Shen is creating her OCs in her world!), as well as different foods, homes, buildings, pets, decorations, all that. If you're the creative kind of person, it sounds pretty awesome.
The Miis can be male, female, or non-binary. Additionally, you can also set the dating preferences of the Miis (male, female, non-binary, any combination of the three, or none), which is very cool!
The game is available in both the NS1 and 2, so you don't need the new hardware to play. If you have a legal copy of the Switch 1 version already, you could also emulate it on something like Eden (but it will be pretty buggy, since it's very new).
"Excuse me, have you got a moment? My name is Dr. Sigmund Freud."
Nice explanation, thanks!
If you're not interested in playing but are interested in seeing others play, the mentioned videos by RTGame, Shenpai, and CallMeKevin are very fun to watch!
RTGame (the drift king himself) has a very messed up island with characters discussing the JFK assassination and singing about McBamas (yes really), occasionally cutting to the happy couple of IWD and Cupcake in between. He has characters like Walter White, Obama, Jack Black, Magical John (and his Johnolith), Mr Bean, and Maruzensky (some character from a horse girl game he played that the community dubbed the drift queen). One note about the Maruzensky, she initially falls in love with RTGame, but 10 seconds later, she immediately forgets about him and falls for Walter White instead.
Shenpai is creating Bird Haven Island with all her OCs and is putting a lot of effort in making everything look really nice.
CallMeKevin is doing something for sure. His playthrough is currently less well developed than RT's or Shen's, but there have already been many funny moments.
RTGame's island sounds the most interesting but I'll have to see their streaming style. I'm old now and can't handle the constantly hyperactive type. I like videos of Matt McMuscles and SNES Drunk, so I'm hoping RTGames is more chill like them. Thanks for the recommendation!
I would also highly recommend Shen too. She's very funny and is also an artist who writes a comic called Bird Haven!
RTGame is a very fun channel to watch. He's done other stuff too, like compressing all the NPCs in Hitman into wine. "Vino Humano"
Alpharad also has a playthrough involving Smash Bros. characters. Him and Princess Peach are living their best life together, Mario repeatedly fails to get the girl, and Luigi hates feminism.
It's basically Animal Crossing meets a very simplified version of The Sims, played with Miis.
No, it’s closer to The Sims or Animal Crossing - a sandbox you fill with little computer-controlled characters, and then see what happens.
Life was there way before the Metaverse.
Well I meant like a virtual hangout space that the stupid metaverse bullshit was trying to create.
